Scorched Earth Part II: Getting It All Together |
|
OK, so many of us are on board with scorched earth. We need a few things. . .
1) Web space and a memorable URL.
2) A private discussion board for organizers to discuss the "scorched earth strategy"
3) Several other things I probably should mention but cannot remember or think of right now. . . please post them here.
Are you on board? If so, say so as well in this message forum.

1. isn't there an already established group |

2. I suggest we steer clear of established groups |
|
They already have a full agenda of their own and every single group has controversy. This should be a grass-roots effort that's not affiliated with one of the big lobby groups IMO.

3. ok -- i'm not that expert on the pro's and con's |
|
for that idea. one last suggestion -- and this maybe farther down the road -- is there one candidate that we can pick out -- boycott and judge the effectiveness of our action? something that after we verify and point to when talking{if we're talking at all} to dems.

7. I think it should be independent of political groups. . . |
|
. . . so we could do our own forum.

8. I certainly agree that we should try to remain independent, |
|
If we begin helping republicans in one part of the counrty and democrats in another, we could run into serious problems and conflicts of interest.
Also, in order to garner as much support as possible, we should stay away from endorsing or denouncing any political programs or ideas not directly related to GLBT issues.
In other words, we're neither for nor against any non-gay issue. So that way, we could get conservative and liberal gays on our side.
Also, there are plenty of places, like yahoo, where we could set up a private message board.

10. Bang on with both points |
|
Developing any agenda other than G.L.B.T. issues will make it all fall apart.
Consider only candidates and their perspectives on the relevant issues.

Here in WI, 15 Democrats voted to amend the state Constitution and then in November, the Dems counted on the LGBT community for money and votes. I am now Green because of it. I am sick of the Dems assuming that we will support them no matter how badly they treat us. It seems to me to be an almost abusive relationship where the abused victim just can't seem to find a way to leave. I don't have a lot of money, but I'm ornery. I would ask, though, to make this a group where all voices are welcome. It seems to many of us in the lesbian, feminist world that many state and national organizations are all about rich, white men and women. The people who are affected most horribly by legislation against gays and lesbians are the poor and middle-class. Their stories, too, need to be heard.
