Canadian Government 'Has the Votes' for Gay Marriage Bill |
|
This past week has seen a flurry of activity in Canada over gay marriage. The Liberals have long pledged to bring forth legislation to legalize gay marriage, but as the date grew near a battle storm began to brew. The Conservatives (Canadian Republicans) launched a vicious series of ads attacking homosexuals and attacked the bill in the press. Several Liberal (ruling party, pro-gay marriage) dissidents also voiced their objection to the bill. However, the Prime Minister decided to force his cabinet to vote for the bill and that, coupled with support from the two smaller parties, will push the Liberals over the the number they need for the bill to pass.
Expect it to be introduced early this week and passed by the end of the week. Gay marriage in Canada will so not have a residency requirement. So come on up to Toronto or Vancouver, celebrate your love and enjoy a civilized country.

... running the country.
This will make the Repukes push even harder here, but at least it is a foot in the door. I hope that it is successful so Dems can use it as an example to shoot their reasoning full of holes.

But I don't think there's a law mandating it.
