Have any of you read McGreevey's book?
I finally got hold of a used copy and decided to read it. I was stuck by the self serving sadness of the book. McGreevey is clearly a talented man but also one who was poisoned by ambition to a ridiculous degree. It is not the best written book so I am not sure I can recommend it, but as a treatise on the destruction of all consuming ambition coupled with dishonesty it is insightful. You won't like McGreevey any better after reading this book. But you will like people who are out better after reading it.

1. his story was just so sad... Yes - he was selfserving and in the end self destructive -
but in his defense - I can't imagine feeling like you have to live a lie to be accepted... To worry that people will turn on you for being who you are?

Very very sad. On the brighter side - his political life was destroyed, but perhaps now he can simply be himself and find happiness in living openly? I hope so anyhow.

2. I hope he does find happiness
Being closeted does suck especially when you go to such extremes.

3. I feel much sorrier for McGreevey's wife
than I do for McGreevey. He was, in my opinion, a self-absorbed little prick.

McGreevey did not do a damn thing for Gay Rights, cruelly used women as beards, and is in no way a gay hero or sympathetic figure. As an Out and Proud Gay Man for many years, I do not relate in any way to McGreevey.
