Republican Heads Explode! Reagan Assistant Defense Chief Calls For End To Military Gay Ban
(Washington) Lawrence J. Korb, Former Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Ronald Reagan, is the latest to call for repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" the ban on gays serving openly in the military.

Testifying before a joint hearing of the House Armed Services Air and Land Forces Subcommittee and the House Armed Services Readiness Subcommittee Korb called on Congress to "get rid of outmoded social restrictions," such as DADT.

The hearing was held to discuss the issue of readiness decline among our nation's ground forces.

In a written submission coinciding with his testimony Korb called the policy, passed when Republicans controlled Congress and signed into law by President Bill Clinton, "counterproductive to military readiness."

10. I would definitely be happier about certain heads exploding.
Repealing DADT just means that more members of our GLBT family are going to in the military dying so wealthy republicans can become even more wealthy.
x(

If they really want to join the military then I will support that right. But given how corrupt the pentagon is, and the republican mis-use of the military, I can't be happy about it.

3. ummmm DADT is not a ban, the ban was already in place before DADT
DADT was the "compromise" agreement with Bill after they went nuclear on him for ending the ban in the first place. DADT was the military brass's "concession", claiming that they would turn their gaze away unless someone ratted on a gay service member or they were openly gay. Of course, the ban is still in place, but DADT lets the military brass pretend they aren't as homophobic as they really are.

5. Before DADT
being a homosexual was grounds for dismissal. No one had to tell anyone anything.

6. DADT also allowed the military to be more homophobic than it already was

Since discharges of gay service members shot up 70% the first five years after Clinton enshrined discrimination into law by giving us DADT. The number of discharges actually went down during the Bush regime. I guess the gay people in the service got the message.

Of an estimated 65,000 gays/lesbians in the service, 10,000 seems to be a very high percentage to be kicked out since 1993, due to DADT.

4. The article is INACCURATE. Bill signed DADT when he HAD a Dem majority. The writer of this

article deliberately set up a false diversion and an excuse for Bill's participation and signing of the bill.

Why else would a writer go out of the way to create the impression the Republicans were the majority?

7. I always wanted to know what was inside a Republics head.
I've always thought pumpkin guts, or maybe snakes, but I've heard it could be squirrels, empty space, a black hole or even candy.

Let's hope it's something fun.

8. I think it's only a matter of time before it gets repealed
And people can serve openly. At least I hope so.

I saw a doc on Logo recently about lesbians who come out later in life, and one story was heartbreaking. One woman who had children from a previous marriage married a woman who was in the Marines, and she was talking about how unfair it was that her children couldn't receive VA education benefits like children of heteros, and that she couldn't accompany her partner on doctor's visits at the VA. It was horrible. For the whole doc, her partner's face was concealed but at the very end she "came out" so to speak, despite the risks.

9. NPR reported this morning
that the Pentagon is not taking record numbers of kids who didn't graduate from high scoool, and record numbers of people with prison records.

Without that, there just isn't enough IED fodder unless they run a draft.

Let's see:

First, high school dropouts

Second, drug dealers

Third, car thieves

fourth, burglars and rapists

And if that's not enough, I guess we might have to take some gays. But they have to promise not to do any, you know, gay stuff in their foxhole.
