i used to hitchhike a million years ago - early 70's. i was about 16 to 18 years old. i'll never forget the very flamboyant young man who gave me a ride one day and as we were driving along, suddenly yelled at the radio, "play boogie woogie bugle boys!" then he dropped his hand toward me and said, "Bette Midler I LOVE her."

several years later i saw her perform at an outdoor theater the name of which i can no longer remember. she was terrific.
