A woman at the center of the storm over a discrimination lawsuit against the Democratic National Committee will be deposed this Friday at the law office of the plaintiff's attorney. Investor Claire Lucas, chair of the DNC's Gay and Lesbian Leadership Council (GLLC), had attempted to have the order to appear and be deposed dismissed. She is on a list of individuals whose testimony has been sought in the case of Donald Hitchcock against the DNC. Lucas also serves on the board of the National Stonewall Democrats.
Hitchcock is suing the DNC over his firing from the position of Executive Director of the GLLC.
Further complicating the case for Lucas are accusations of potential perjury by her. In a claim to the court that she was not a District of Columbia resident, thus affecting the order to appear at the deposition, Lucas appeared to contradict an earlier sworn statement. Lucas, who owns property in the District, took advantage of its Residential Homestead Deduction, a property tax break exclusive to resident homeowners.
On March 26th, DC Superior Court Judge Jeanette Clark ordered "that Ms. Lucas shall make herself available for a deposition to begin not later than April 18, 2008, and she shall make herself available until the deposition has concluded."
