Anyone nervous about the Day of Truth |
|
Edited on Sun Apr-27-08 08:26 PM by dsc
Our Day of Silence went very well despite having a few Straight Pride shirts and signs. I haven't seen one of those yet, so I don't know what to expect. I know I can take having the cards handed to me, I just don't want to see it happen to my kids. Pray for me and all of us tomorrow, and not for us to change either lol.
I am a rookie at this being out at school thing and as being an advisor. Let me rise to the occasion.
On edit, the Day of Truth is the Christian answer to Day of Silence. Kids come in with cards telling us we can change.

20. Indeed. With God's help, bigotry and intolerance CAN be cured |
|
I like the idea of T-shirts that say, "Who Would Jesus Bully?"

smile and tell them no thanks, you do not want to change? It seems they want other reactions.
I honestly do not know how I would react to this if I were you. Why are they allowed to do this if it is a Christian sponsored event? I could see not stopping it if it was just a counter but is it sponsored by a church?

7. I intend to do just that |
|
I just don't know how aggresive they will or have gotten. I had one straight pride student in my class and he was OK. Ironicly I figure he may well be gay but I could be wrong on that. I am wondering what happens with this Day of Truth is all.

8. Good observation and very possibly true |
|
It seems that many of the most vociferous anti-gay folks are mostly fighting against their inner self. Otherwise, why go to so much effort? Unfortunately, with kids, it's sometimes muddled, because they can pick up their parents' homophobia and spew it without examination.
As an example, I remember when I was a kid, my father used to say that Nixon was getting a bum rap and that he was a great president. I remember spewing that at school. Looking back now that I have my own values in place, it's pretty amusing. The only positive thing I can say about Nixon is he wasn't a total asshat with regards to China. Otherwise, complete loser.

I figured him to be gay long before the Day of Silence though I could be wrong.

your day goes well. This must be difficult for you and especially the kids. I am hoping they are just going to do their thing without getting aggressive.
BTW, you mentioned a thread about a Leavenworth kid to me? I was unable to find that, I have not had as much time to look as I would like these last few days. If you would mind pointing it out for me I would appreciate it. Is it about a problem at a school? This is our, KEC's, big focus right now since we were major push that got the anti-bullying law and the anti-cyber bullying law passed in the legislature. Leavenworth has apparently been doing some work on this issue so I would be interested in seeing what you were writing about. Thanks.
Hope it goes well for you and the kids today. Fingers crossed and good vibes sent your way.

It's a shame how so-called "christians" use their children to spread their anti-Christ message. Supposedly Jesus preached about love, and the thing he hated most was hypocrisy. To act hatefully in the name of Jesus is hypocrisy.
btw, i'm an atheist.

12. It'll be ok. "No lie can live forever." |
|
Even the (ugh!) "Day of Truth".
>>On edit, the Day of Truth is the Christian answer to Day of Silence.>>> I'd put "Christian" in quotes there.
>>Kids come in with cards telling us we can change.>> What the cards really say is THEY *refuse* to change.
Keep us posted. You are brave as hell.
