Why Logo.
If you don't know Logo is/was an exclusively GLBT channel. I was flipping through the programming and they are going to air reruns of I Love New. I Love New york is a VH1 reality show that has absolutely nothing to do with GLBT. I really like Logo they have many great shows for the GLBT community it is getting to the point that as soon as you turn around they will start airing Larry the cable guy comedy specials.

1. I think it's the "campiness" factor.

It's soap opera dramedy (and "real" to boot), and there's a female star delicious enough to be a drag queen. Sometimes it's just about the entertainment.

PLUS, I think logo knows it needs to draw more than just GLBT viewers.

edited to add:

They're probably trying to produce more GLBT oriented shows too.

2. Television exists as a vehicle for advertising
The scheduled entertainment is just the vehicle. I'm guessing logo wanted some crossover "mainstream" advertisers to buy time based on new "eyes" from the lineup change.

Logo is not a public service. It's just targeted at our demographic because there was a relatively empty niche for it to occupy.

3. True, but with all the cable channels, it's nice to have a GLBT one
I was thrilled when Comcast in Detroit added it to their lineup a couple of years ago. They seem to add new religious channels every five minutes, so it was nice to see they included Logo.

4. It's the fate of all cable channels
Cable channels start out catering to a target audience. As time goes on, they start to branch out into other programming in order to reach more viewers. As a result, they end up looking like every other cable channel. See: Cartoon Network showing live action movies.

5. Thank You
I just got digital cable, and wouldn't have even thought to see if I had Logo, until this thread.

I do. However, it seems the programming for the next two days is about 95% geared toward lesbians. Is this how it always is?

6. They don't seem to have much funding for new programming and they're constrained.
I had a music video on the channel. They have a few shows and heavily rely on non-risque content from film festivals. I think it's a combination of they don't carried in many places and they are extremely mainstream in their content. They want to show LGBT people in a very particular way. Super poppy, gay-male culture, inspiring or touching stories about transfolk, NOTHING TOO POLITICAL! We're not people; we're a demographic (that needs to be acceptible to straight, corporate advertising.) There's actually a poverty of content in that area. A lot of LGBT films and media deal with politics, radical queer stuff, foreign documentary stuff, and so forth...
