Marriage Equality: Either you believe in Equality and Freedom or You are a Terrorist
So I think this should be our battle cry.

What do you think my fellow GLBT Du'ers?

1. I think that's reaching
Granted, I'm British and we don't normally go in for hyperbole like this. It just seems tacky to me, that kind of terror-baiting.

2. When confronted with anti-gay protesters, the pro-equality side should just chant, "U.S.A! U.S.A.!"
Of course, that also gives the anti-freedom side the chance to shout back "You are gay! You are gay!" which rhymes with that.

But we'd know who would have both the moral high ground as well as the patriotic high ground.

11. Presuming they would shout back "You are gay! You are gay!"
....is assuming that these people have the ability to think quickly and respond.

If they were capable of that, they wouldn't be right wing homophobic shitheads in the first place. ;)

3. Personally, I'm all for painting half my face blue, yelling 'Freedom!' and charging at the anti-gay
protestors with a claymore in my hand.

... but that's just me. :yoiks:

8. You'd have to be manly...
...to wear a kilt (or a skirt, for that matter) while running around the Highlands. Have you any idea how cold it gets up there?

10. Hackett and Feingold both said something similar
Either you believe in equality and freedom or you're un-American.

We live in a world where wiretapping and home investigations can occur without a warrant, where you are electronically stripsearched at the airport and where your online surfing, bookstore and Amazon purchases are monitored for subversive activity, and where you can't carry cash without being accused of drug trafficking.

What freedoms do "non-gay" Americans cherish, I wonder.

Anyone who thinks that taking away the equal freedoms of other Americans is a moral duty is un-American. The first thing we point to that makes America special is our Constitution, which is supposed to guarantee the rights of the minority from being usurped by the majority: equal treatment under the law.

Standing against equal treatment under the law - what could be more un-American? By extension, using it terrorize us into acting and marrying straight is also by definition state-sponsored terrorism.

We've tried reason; I say it's past time to give good old fashioned shouting-down a try.

15. I prefer you either believe in equality or you are responsible for genocide.
Since there's no such thing as terror-ism, I don't want my enemies associated with it. Believe in inequality leads to genocide, slow or fast.

17. No. Really, really no.

Reason 1: It isn't true.

Reason 2: Even if we wanted to tell lies and manipulate the public consciousness, (to which I take more than some exception), the word terrorist is devalued enough as it is and, dumb as a lot of people are, most will figure it out to be nothing more than a publicity stunt. They would be quite justified, actually, in describing it as a SHRILL publicity stunt.

Bush & co at least nominally have the right to defend the nation against terrorists, and they're careful to devalue the term only so far, they can rely on popular myth to fill in the blanks about the Middle East, but if we go around deciding it means whatever we want without the perception of having that right we'll just look stupid.

Bush is devalued through his manipulation. In copying him we will suffer the same devaluation.

The world does, in fact, have some REAL terrorists. We should reserve the term for those individuals.
