wearing skin tight pink shirts with lions on them? :eyes:

This is the shit I buy.

20. They're *not* out of shape. Look at the pic again.
I saw *one* of about seven that was overweight. The rest look like average twenty-something to thirty something guys.

Which personally I find more interesting than A and F types... which exist mostly in the realm of the imagination.

>>>>>>This is the shit I buy.>>>> That you *buy*. Exactly.

You scoop up the average and I'll take:

34. Not in the least.
To each his own. I'm simply questioning the accurracy of your characterisation of the Lion Pride guys as 'out of shape'.

A closer look suggests one of the seven is medically overweight ( my def. of 'out of shape'; perhaps not yours) and one borderline. The others look fine even if they look like they might spend more time reading than lifting weights.

Not a crime in my book... nor a turnoff.

39. the company usually asks customers to send in pictures
for the advertisements. most photos are fun and cute, and yes, use average-looking people. I prefer it that way, I roll my eyes anytime I see advertisements at the mall. in fact, so much at the mall makes me roll my eyes that I get dizzy. maybe that's why I feel sick after a short time there, and not the noise and the smell.

5. Umm
I dunno, but to me people are people, and fine as they are. Most people ARE out of shape some will never be hard bodies no matter how they workout or starve themselves..
And I think out of shape people deserve love too.Why be so harsh, the guys who make the shirt might not be able to afford the kind of models Acrombie and Fitch can hire.Ever think of that?..Yeah the guys in the shirts had guts,it wasn't the best ad I agree.

But in reality lots of guys can be cute and have guts ,some bigger than others and some guys with guts are still good people. There is such look-ism in these responses it's sad.It reminds me of how hetero men control hetero women based on their appearance and humiliate them for not being feminine enough, or not thin enough.

As for the pink lions design I liked it. It had an innocence to it that is lost on some people.Something I find beautiful about being queer, reclaiming that heart to heart, connection without gender or plumbing getting in my way.And one does not require a hard body to express real love,ya know .I would rather have someone who really loves me,than eye candy that will just create dramas and leave me in a week because he is a slut and a bit of a snob and never really wanted to relate to me as a person..

6. In a perfect world undergroundpanther, of course
all types of bodies would be accepted in gay culture.

But let's be honest, there's a lot of pressure in our community to look good and to be fit.

I don't know where you live, but in California, there's pressure.

There's a reason neatness and fashion and other descriptions are associated with being gay.

It's because while they may be stereotypes as a whole, there's a lot of truth to them.

I think you might agree a little.

One thing is true...the Queer Eye guys would be horrified at that ad. LOL

7. And what you describe is why a lot of guys don't feel a part of our "community"
Because of that stupid body fascism and the right clothes and everything has to be perfect bullshit with gay men. I was very much bothered with "Queer Eye" for just that reason...for fostering that superficial bullshit.

8. Well I don't disagree with what you're saying.
But take a look at this cover of Genre.

"What's your gay body IQ?"

This is what I'm talking about.

You can be opposed to this, but you have to admit that appearance is heavily entrenched in gay culture.

And by the way, I like going to the gym so I look nice.

I think it's good that people take care of their bodies.

I don't think, however it should be a prerequisite for acceptance.

And it's unfortunate that it's the reason some guys feel left out. I know that it's painful.

9. It's not a slam on you.
If you want to go to the gym (which I could stand to do), great. Of course...going to the gym in a regular workout regimen is good for you. Which, again, admittedly, I could stand to do as well.

Yes, that body image IS the ideal in the gay community. Genre is, unfortunately, a arbiter of what is supposed to be the ideal body image. I'm 52 years old. I can't POSSIBLY, NO WAY, could I ever look like that. I could get try and try and try and I just couldn't get a body like that. I'm not opposed to it...hell, I'm a GAY man after all. :-) I am dismayed that so many guys would go to extreme lengths...including steroids and growth hormone and such...to try to get to what they would consider the only acceptable body type.

10. and a lot of us fags
are horrified by the Queer Eye guys perpetuating the stereotypes that all gay guys care about is fashion, cooking gourmet meals, rock hard abs and knowing good wine.

jesus enough with those rubber-stamp mo's dictating what is good about a man -

I for one would have LOVED to see one of them show up at my house last weekend in the 90 degree heat to help me split wood.

11. Yea, well I wouldn't qualify as being gay if it was
mandatory to know everything about what the Q-E guys are "perpetuating." Believe me.

I was a huge fan of QAF, even though it perpetuated the stereotype that all gay guys do is fuck and take crystal meth and hustle.

I don't see the harm since I doubt a lot of straight people watched Queer as Folk.

It was a soap opera.

And straight people watching Q-E already think gays are into fashion, good wine, nice cars, good bodies.

Who cares.

And this guy would have probably been the one to help you split wood.

29. So I guess you don't buy into the whole "reclaiming the word" thing then...
And that's fine... But anyone who refers to themselves as a 'mo is "faking" their gayness to you?

Seems a little harsh to me.

30. No -- when someone decides to use those words in their intro to the GLBT forum
that's when I think they're lying about being gay on an internet message board.

It's actually a pretty common tactic with trolls/moles.

I suppose I got thrown off, because in my experience, I've never heard a str8 person use the term 'mo. I've only heard it used by LGBT folks. But that's just my experience.

We're the GD: P of minority forums.

By the way, for those of you "true believers" who really feel that being gay means being on the cutting edge of fabulous fashion, I have two words for you: capri pants.

Don't you EVER tell me my t-shirts and jeans are tacky again.
