We Now need a "No on 8" site ASAP
The Anti-Gay Marriage Initiative now has a number assigned to it.

There's really no time to waste on organizing against this.

1. Do ballot measures in CA get renumbered every election?
Edited on Sat Jun-28-08 02:06 PM by TechBear_Seattle
In Washington, we use three numbering systems: one for initiatives, one for referendum bills (the Legislature submits legislation to the people for approval, rather than to the Governor) and one for referendum measures (the people declare that they and not the Governor will authorize legislation.) When we speak of, say, Initiative 957 or Referendum Measure 66, we know what it was and when it was proposed.

Edited for clarity.

3. Apparently, but there might be exceptions
Edited on Sat Jun-28-08 02:32 PM by Stargleamer
Since Proposition 13 was such a major piece of (defective) law, 30 years ago, they might not choose to have another Prop. 13, so the two won't get confused.

8. iirc, Initiatives (to change the Consitution are numbered sequentially)
Propositions (to amend or change the laws are numbered, separately, sequentially).

Last election we had a couple of Propositions in the 90's.

2. If any number can be "good" for this prop
They chose the perfect one.

Stop the hate. Vote NO on 8.

Please, any organizations whom may be reading, take that slogan and run with it.

4. Plenty of variations available too
I am rather partial to contrarian and sarcastic tactics. I think "Spread the hate / Vote YES on 8" would do well to link hate and a yes vote in people's minds.

6. I just read that those trying to defeat Gay Marriage
have already raised 3 million in support of Prop. 8, whereas our side has just raised 1.5 million. Please let's get started early.
