Gays asked to be "Minnesota-nice" to Republicans
Local gays asked to be "Minnesota-nice" to visiting Republicans

A tongue-in-cheek advertising campaign created by a Minneapolis-St Paul agency is encouraging the city's LGBT community to embrace the Republican National Convention.

One ad features a gay couple kissing on a park bench next to a lesbian couple.

When they spot two archetypal middle-aged Republicans coming towards them, they reform into two straight couples.

The Republicans are in the city this week for their convention, where they will formally nominate John McCain as their Presidential candidate.

Senator Mc Cain opposes gay adoption and gay marriage.

"Regardless of your political leaning, everyone in the Metro area should open their arms (or at least be Minnesota-nice) to our guests during the Republican National Convention," according to the UnConvention.

The group, "a non-partisan collective of citizens that promotes the democratic and free exchange of ideas on important issues," is promoting the Make An Effort campaign.

"An advertising campaign created by Twin Cities advertising agency, Campbell Mithun, encourages you to find your own way to graciously welcome our many visitors–as well as participate in the many non-partisan activities going on in town during the RNC.

"Check out the campaign and pass it along!"

1. So go back into the closet for the republicans?
Up yours! (even though I'm not there)

2. Did you go to the link and watch the videos?
It's satirical humor worthy of Colbert.

3. I will admit that it's funny...
...and as such, I find it less offensive. I don't think they actually mean what it's saying.

4. Doesn't "Minnesota nice" mean "exceedingly passive-aggressive"?
Apparently, it does. :toast:

Nothing like good ole fashioned Midwestern passive-agressiveness!

and that's not a bad description.

9. At least it's sarcasm...
They should hold an LGBT kiss-in outside the convention, along with the unorthodox fashion styles and such.
