Yes on 8 came to my door today
With their 10(?) year old kid.

Me: (to the kid) Have your parents told you it's wrong to lie?
Are you happy with them lying to all these good folks around here?

(The last part was yelled at their backs)

Dick

1. They were out in force in San Jose yesterday, in spite of the rain.
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 12:03 PM by keepCAblue
Leaving door hangers on front doors in my friend's neighborhood and sending their minions in pairs door to door in my neighborhood. The ones that stalked my neighborhood were 3 women and 1 man in one car. The man who was driving parked his shiny black Mercedes in front of my house, no doubt to block the "No on 8" in our front yard. I watched from inside as he parked and all four got out. He made the three women wait as he got a chamois out and proceeded, very slowly and deliberately, to wipe down his Mercedes, making sure not to miss a spot. When he finally got done, the three walked off down the street with their bibles, "yes on 8" propaganda and their sanctimonious smugness. I, in turn, got out the broom and proceeded to VIGOROUSLY sweep the sidewalk in front of my house, sweeping the dust, dirt and leaves out to the street and, well, yes, I suppose some of that dirt might have flown in the direction of the black Mercedes. Next, I got out the hose and proceeded to spray down the sidewalk -- that darn nozzle attachment, tho, sometimes it just seems to have a mind of its own!

Later that same day, spouse and I were driving down I-880 and saw the zealots had affixed two of those putrid yellow and blue "yes on 8" signs to the chain link fencing of the freeway overpass. Concerned that such propaganda might pose a visual hazard to the freeway traffic below, we took it upon ourselves to remove the menace and toss them into the garbage.

And if that weren't enough, as we were exiting the freeway, there they were - about 30 screaming, jubilant "Yes on 8" nut jobs standing on the corner of one of the busiest intersections in the state, waving their signs and hopping up and down. Praise Jesus! It was fucking pouring rain and these whackos are so obsessed with ripping apart my marriage that they risk their, and yes, their childrens' health, to stand out in the cold, wind, and pouring rain just to spread their message of hate and bigotry.

I hate these people. I have lost all constraint in my contempt for these mean, vile shit-spewing barbarians. And if one has the sheer bad luck or blatant stupidity to put themselves or one of their signs in my face, I am honestly afraid of what I might do. These people are driving a spike through our community and dividing our neighborhoods. They are in close danger of driving reasonable people to fight back, and with that, I don't mean with signs and glossy flyers spewing dirty propaganda. This could get physical before it's all over and these people have no one to blame but themselves.

2. HeeHee.

It's getting like that in my rather conservative neck of the woods - in the Murrieta/Temecula Valley area.

Much friction between neighbors.

7. I kind of feel bad for the guy who was compulsively wiping his car.
Seems like such a hopeless task - all the wiping in the world isn't going to wash the filth off of their vehicle.

11. Couldn't you have done more to protect the Mercedes from the dust, dirt and leaves?
I'm thinking a few rolls of duct tape -- applied liberally-- would have spared you any guilt about the necessary yard work.

:D

14. it needs to be willing to go there.
We ARE red blooded Americans, and they are by god trying to take away our human, and American civil rights.

If we do nothing but cry about it in our beer, they are validated. I can't really say what I'd like to do, but legally speaking I'm all for taking their pictures and posting them on the web and asking everyone in our community who recognizes these people to NOT serve them at restaurants, to not hire them, to fire them if you have hired them (for being straight, right), to treat them like third class citizens AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY because that is what they are.

A real American would not try to take away the rights of another American.

Dirt and leaves stick much better to a wet surface. :hi:

3. Here's a good idea...
Everyone, if you get one at your door. Talk to them. Keep them there. Stall for time. Keep them from getting to others. Dare you invite them in?

6. Oooh--here's an idea!
Don't live in CA, but if I did, I would invite them in, and then go on a rant about the "sanctity of marriage"--and how the greatest threat isn't gays but DIVORCE! I'd whip out a fake petition for getting a new proposition on the ballot banning ALL divorce, even for infidelity, cruelty, and attempted murder! I'd get this gleam in my eye, and demand that they sign it.

9. Please, please DO NOT invite these people into your home!

They are fully capable of filing a false police report accusing you of assault or something, just for spite and "joy" of telling lies and destroying lives.

That's what they do. That's what they ARE.

Distract and delay them, sure. But please don't open yourself up to abuse at the hands of these evil people.

4. You really have to wonder
why people would make such an effort to stop marriage. I don't really get it. Shouldn't these people get a life?

17. Absolutely they should get a life. But they are miserable, ignorant people who fear
anything they don't understand (which is a lot). They'd rather hate than try to understand.

5. Kudos to you!
What a great thing to say! Hope the kid remembers this and starts asking questions. A faint hope, yes, I know, but maybe he has liberal relatives who he can talk to.

8. Its a CHOICE!
A good male friend of mine picked up a guy from NC this weekend in a bar and despite his conquest's very conservative upbringing, they wound up in bed together.....ergo....religion IS a choice! They can be cured!

Psalm 1:1 - Blessed is the man who walks not with the ungodly nor stands in the way of sinners......

well then.....if I'm a sinner, then do what the good book says and get the HELL out of my way!
