Faces and voices of "Blitzkrieg moment" rally: Qualcomm stadium "Yes on 8" - November 1, 2008

Prop 8's Call to Extremism

November 1 stadium rally is ‘blitzkrieg moment’ for organizer Lou Engle, who recruits young people for an extremist brand of "dominionist" Christianity

Who’s Making "The Call?"

Tens of thousands of marriage equality opponents, including Religious Right leader James Dobson, are expected to attend "The Call," a November 1 rally at Qualcomm stadium. On a July 30 conference call among pastors mobilizing support for the proposition to strip marriage equality from the California constitution, Lou Engle enthusiastically described the event as a "blitzkrieg moment." The language of war is standard for Engle, who has built a ministry around recruiting young Christians into a radical religious movement that believes the church is meant to conquer and rule the world.

Engle, who moved his family to California temporarily to help lead the fight to pass Prop. 8, believes that the battle against marriage equality is a war against Satanic forces of darkness...

More from People For the American Way.

This is a "blitzkrieg moment"? Blitzkrieg?! Do these people even understand the implications of what they're saying?

Audio from the event: Good As You has all the fundy headliners. Hear it for yourself, they are ridding the world of "satanic roaches"!

10. Their idealized Christian kingdom looks a lot like Jonestown.
These people are so spiritually grandiose that no one can reach them. Scary stuff, imho. :scared:

2. Shades of the late 80's...

when certain legislators were proposing rounding up homosexuals and putting them into quarantine camps during the AIDS epidemic. All they needed were ovens.

11. Remember Congressman Bob Dornan (R-California)?
"Don't use the word 'gay' unless it's an acronym for 'Got Aids Yet'" - Bob Dornan

What an unhinged asshole he was!

19. Remember Proposition 64, California's AIDS quarantine initiative?

This was championed by Lyndon Larouche and William E. Danneyer (R-Cal.) described it as a legitimate public health measure.

The case was made that this would desensitize the public to the idea of concentration camps for gays:

20. I do remember Prop 64, Dannemeyer and LaRouche.
I hope Californians are as turned off by our contemporary extremists as they were by LaRouche.

Same game, different name.

5. The Sheeple Don't Understand...
what they're saying but you can be very sure that the organisers of this travesty do.

I can't even listen to their drivel and hate without my blood pressure going up several points.

"The Call" is what I have been afraid all along was going to happen. There is never any fucking limits put on fundie hate speeck. You can bet if we called for the rounding up of "Fundie roaches" or "Christian roaches", there would be a huge uproar. But when it is done against "teh gay", that's freedom of speech." Free speech needs to end when anyone's life or liberty is threatened.

I have nightmares of this country turning into a Chrsto-fascist dictatorship if Obama doesn't win on Tuesday.

The "Yes on 8" fanaticism in California has been nightmarish. I don't think straight Americans understand what it's like to see or hear commercials on television and radio that advocate for one's disenfranchisement. Seeing "true believers" with their "Yes on 8" signs on the freeway entrance ramps is gut-wrenching. But what's the harm as long as little baby Jesus isn't crying?

Sick. sad. world.

6. Now there are some Fundie Bridezillas--
"But God was supposed to bless MY wedding, not yours!"

These bloodless brides of Jesus
If they had just once glimpsed their groom
Then they'd know, and they'd drop the stones
Concealed behind their rosaries
They wilt the grass they walk upon
They leech the light out of a room
They'd like to drive us down the drain

15. I appreciate the Joni reference.
Are you familiar with "Tax Free"? It's a scathing condemnation of evangelists and Jesus freaks.

Preacher preaching love like vengeance

Preaching love like hate

Calling for large donations

Promising estates

Rolling lawns and angel bands

Behind the pearly gates

You know, he will have his in this life

But yours will have to wait

My momma always said you should wipe your ass thoroughly before making it your business to wipe someone else's.

They are no different than slave owners. They believe that some Americans aren't as American as they are, that they are superior because their faith is better than everyone else's and that they have the right and DUTY to tell other people how they can and can't live their lives.

newsflash fuckfaces. If you think you're in pain now, just wait and see what happens when we bring the war to your door if Prop 8 passes. We're not going back, and this time, we're not going to spend a whole lot of time feeling sorry for ourselves, mostly BECAUSE we ARE red blooded Americans and this is bullshit.

17. They haven't had a critical thought in their lives.
I don't think they know how to function in the world outside of their church community. No wonder they're in such pain - they're prisoners.
