So what's our next move?
New York again?

I'm at a loss.

1. I was at a big Democratic shindig in San Diego last night, and overheard several people
Talking about taking Proposition 8 to the court immediately.

Which will of course be followed promptly by a recall of any judges or CA Supreme Court justices who move to strike the ban.

And on and on and on.

2. I think this needs to become a SCOTUS issue
it needs to be challenged and taken all the way up, as a Constitutional equal rights issue.

Looking back at the Texas sodomy law which the SCOTUS overturned, I still have some hope!

4. Maybe after Obama appoints new justices
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 11:09 AM by Harvey Korman
with this Court, I wouldn't even want to risk it.

Getting DOMA repealed would be a big help also.

6. Well, I think that may be the case anyway
For what it's worth, the current SCOTUS actually upheld equal rights on that Texas sodomy law, so you never know.

:D

3. We have money and we have votes. They are given freely to NO ONE.

We must demand action from the candidates we have supported.
If they take us for granted we must work to ensure their defeat. They must know ahead of time that "politics as usual" will be met with payback as usual.

8. But kenny, are we really organized?
I mean as a serious, national poltical movement?

I know we are committed because we live in this crap, mired daily, and I am stunned by the level of ignornace out of the mouths of regular people who see nothing wrong with being bigots and deny they are, I am referring to the world outside DU, the people that have dropped the mask inother forums to reveal their ugly bias.

Look at the trash that screamed at those Pukin hatefests, the blather about family values is still out there as code for gay baiting.

5. I went for a long run this morning and pondered the same thing.
I am feeling good about my home state of NY. The governor is a strong ally of GLBT rights and is ready to bring a Marriage Equality bill to the Legislature if it can pass.
Last night, the NYS legislature went BLUE. With Joe Bruno out of the picture, it has a chance of being legislated, and I don't think that an amendment would gain much traction in NY.

I think we have to wait a bit and see if Obama makes good on his DOMA promise. When DOMA falls, federal benefits will pass on to all married people in this country. Then, a Supreme Court challenge is in order.

I am anxiously awaiting some strategic announcements from HRC, Lambda Legal, ACLU etc.

7. I am at a loss too. Who are our leaders?
Where is our national position statement?

What is the under pinning of our philopshy and message articulated in a coherent, persuasive manner?

I am serious. Can someone tell me?

Is there a GLBT web site, forum, blog that I need to know about?
