My thoughts on Prop 8
Damn, Damn, Damn, Fuck, Shit.

I have never been ashamed of being gay and I am not going to start now.

Congratulations to Obama...of course I wanted him to win. But...

I really don't know what to say.

1. Don't give up hope!
We will fight for our equal rights. They will not win this or any other battle.

3. I know...
I'm just feeling tired of fighting.

5. Oh, trust me - I understand
we're winning this, but it's a lot slower going than most of us hope for. But we are winning this, and will continue to do so.

6. The fat lady has reached the last page of her aria, though
http://vote.sos.ca.gov/props/index.html

With fewer than 900 precincts left to go, and with a lead of 3.3% of the count, it is very unlikely that bigotry will not win.

8. There are provisional and absentee ballots to count. And lawsuits to file.

9. Again, what lawsuits?
The state courts have already declared that the measure itself is valid; now that it is passed, the state courts cannot strike it down any more than the US Supreme Court can declare the First Amendment to be invalid. And I am feeling extremely pessimistic about any case reaching the federal courts, much less the US Supreme Court ruling in favor of equality.

11. There are others who aren't getting pessimistic. The DA in San Francisco is filing today.
I'm no legal expert, but earlier today, this link was provided to me that gave me hope.

The tyranny of the majority fell before, and with work, effort and support, the tyranny of the majority will fall again.

4. Put it on the massive influx of Mormon money.
I would think it should be illegal for a state ballot issue to be funded mostly from out of state, but anyway... that cash paid for a lot of scare tactics telling suburbanites that their kids would be taught gay sex if they didn't vote yes.

As with all things in politics, this too is the slow cutting of hard boards. The CA amendment can be overruled by a federal court. Fortunately, we just guaranteed new Dem-appointed federal court members.

7. Business as usual - we always get thrown under the bus
No different this time around but for ONE thing. Obama mentioned gay and lesbians in his acceptance speech.

10. Get angry and fight back. Your birthright was stolen and nobody cares.
When you're ready, you'll find us.
