I am ashamed of my fellow Americans...the ones that voted for
hatred in the light of voting for change.

I promise I still have, and will always have, your back.

4. It's sick and disgusting and I can only hope that, one day, these
people will realize how shameful their "fear" is.

16. Joining Florida as the only state that outright prohibits it
There are other states where it's not outright prohibited, but still disallowed in practice.

In light of this change, hope, I will spend the next 2 years trying to overturn the Yes vote on 2 in Florida. I'll probably lose, but hell, all we need is several hundred thousand people to sign a petition to get it on the ballot.

18. Arkansas measure is even worse! It won't allow any single or 'co-habituating' couple to act as
foster parents nor adopt. The kids are the ones that lost... all 3700 looking for a home.

On the one hand, I am so proud of my country for electing Barack Obama.

On the other hand, I am so ashamed that so many people voted for hate.

We still have so much work to do. :-(

10. I am so, so sorry.
I was all wound up in myself and my own "deal" last night (early this morning) when that news came through. I thought of you and of how happy I was when ronnyk posted his wedding pics and my tears changed from myself to for you. I wish we weren't so stupid.

11. I am so sad and sick about this today.
Almost everyone that I love is gay, so this is heartbreaking.

15. I am ashamed, too
I just keep thinking how bittersweet this must be for all the people who are targets of this hatred.

I'm an atheist. I used to think that being an atheist was almost as bad as being homosexual to the Republicans. But, yesterday, I realized that it's not. No one passes laws that nullify atheist marriage. No one passes laws that prohibit atheists from adopting children.

I'm sorry I every thought I had it as bad as others when it is clear that I do not.

And I'm sorry that, in light of the wonderful victory, there is a shadow of defeat.

17. It is hard for me to acknowledge...
so much pain in the face of so much joy. I am on the outside looking in, and would prefer to look away. But what is done to one of us, is done to all of us, whether we choose to see it or not.

But the nearer the dawn the darker the night,
And by going wrong all things come right;
Things have been mended that were worse,
And the worse, the nearer they are to mend.
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow,
Tales of a Wayside Inn--
