I try not to post in here much anymore but I have to do this today. I think you all know how I felt about Obama, my feelings never changed except maybe to get worse once it was said loud and clear that neither he nor Biden could support marriage equality. My delight and sheer joy at seeing an African American elected as POTUS is dampened, like yours, by this. This was not the kind of win I was looking for.
I can't find joy in this after watching 3 more states relegate you to the back of the country. Seeing the ecstasy here on DU is hard to deal with. That is me, I can't imagine how it feels in your shoes.
I had stepped back from a lot of the work when my personal life blew up last month. I really have thought of little else and the pain is keeping me distracted but I can tell you that in the next few weeks I am going to find a strong place that must be left in my heart somewhere and put my shoulder back on the wheel and begin pushing as hard as I can. I will no longer say that I can't lead or speak because I am not GLBT, I will speak loudly (well I always did just not in a public venue) and I will carry a big stick as well. There is no excuse for this kind of thing, not with anyone who has a heart and a brain or even just a functioning one of those things. This is reprehensible. I may just be a little middle aged straight lady but I know how to fight and my fight is coming back quickly. This just sickens me and made me cry when I read this morning about Prop 8.
Times like these we all must hang together. Want the help or not many of us are here and doing the work. Like my therapist said just last week (and I hated her for saying it but it is true), things like this will just make you stronger. I guess we are here in this time and place for a reason and it must be to get this done. You have help and we are willing to put everything on the line to get this country to recognize what it seems to not want to see. Nobody is free or equal when equality is not for everyone.
I am so sorry.

"Nobody is free or equal when equality is not for everyone." You are absolutely right. This is exactly the same issue as equality for African-Americans and saying they just have to wait is not acceptable - anyone who says it is is not on our side...

I almost took that out, it sounds so stupid but it is what I meant to say so I am glad you agree ;).
No one should ever have to wait but mostly no one should ever have to feel the way this must feel or live in the knowledge that there are people out there who would do this simply because they are different from each other.
Thanks. It is always good to know those who are on the side of the right thing to do.

I am always happy to see you here, I miss seeing you more often.
I am angling for another trip to NYC. I feel the need to see Billy Eliot and Equus. You still around, wanna meet up? We could get ThomCat out on the town and have some fun!
I think another trip to Stonewall would do me some good. There is much inspiration in that little park across the street.

Next year I will have a kid there so I will be back and forth often I hope. It will never be as often as I would like but hey, in 55 years I have only made it once so it is bound to be better. :hi:

Hey, a trip to NYC and getting together with people I like is about the best thing I can think of. I like to treat my friends and you would be coming in to the city. It would be unthinkable not to treat you for doing that and for being my friend. Call it good old liberal Kansas values. It is the way we are so there!
