Breaking: 15,000+ protesters in SF over Prop 8
Live from San Francisco, California

In excess of 15,000 people are marching through San Francisco to protest at the passing of Proposition 8, the voter initiative in California that effectively bans gay marriage have admitted defeat.

With 100% of votes counted, 5,424,916 (52.4%) voted in favour of a constitutional definition of marriage being between a man and woman. 4,832,086 (47.6%) voted against. Some postal and absentee votes have yet to be counted.

The crowds have just left the Civic Centre and are now passing through the Castro district of the city before meeting at a rally in Delores Park.

Organisers said: "We are protesting tonight in San Francisco because it was in San Francisco that the California Supreme Court gave equality to all Californians, and many people who helped us get to that point are based in San Francisco.

1. That's a little confusing ...

Pardon the fact I'm questioning, but having been involved in a few protest events in the past, I'm a little confused.

"We are protesting tonight in San Francisco because it was in San Francisco that the California Supreme Court gave equality to all Californians, and many people who helped us get to that point are based in San Francisco.

Solidarity is good and all, but one doesn't get a point across by preaching to a choir. The protests need to take place at this level in LA, Bakersfield, San Diego, etc., not the place where the question was soundly defeated.

2. Not to be picky but...
I doubt that the "God is Queer" sign is going to help this cause. We have to remember who we're talking about here.

3. Well, he never married you know, and 33 back then was like the new 45
Being unmarried at 33 when people married young made you at least a confirmed bachelor. At DU, even flimsier evidence than that is often taken as conclusive proof of you-know-what.
"Jeff Gannon had a press pass therefore George W. Bush is gay." If I had a nickel for every time I heard that at DU, I'd have way too many nicklels.

4. Well, maybe not nickels, not the way this economy is going... but there's the 1/2 cent piece...
I hear that 2 cents is the new 5 cents.
