As an uneducated straight person on this issue what is the CA/national organizational status?
That is, are there any single issue groups for marriage equality that I could get involved in or give money too? Does California now have a good organization that people can begin to rally around to drive this issue through to the finish line?

Are all of the people who are demonstrating in the streets just disorganized anger or is there a political structure beginning to take form that can drive this issue through to the finish?

By the way, someone posted in the GLBT forum about the rest of the people not giving a damn about gays on DU. I am not one of those people.

1. There are plenty of groups
Here are three:

http://www.hrc.org/

All of them you are welcome to contact to provide help and support so that those who love can choose to marry. I thank you for supporting and helping us. Helping some of us be free is helping all of us be free.

PS: And thank you for giving a damn. By that small gesture, you raised the level of good in the world.

2. Thank you for your support.
The protests are simply the voice of the people and they do give visibility to the causeand put a human face to those that are being dehumanized.

Here is some info, from the inter net about specific actions being taken and by whom.

>>Gay-marriage bans also passed on Tuesday in Arizona and Florida, with 57 percent and 62percent support, respectively, while Arkansas voters approved a measure aimed at gays that bars unmarried couples from serving as adoptive or foster parents.

Massachusetts and Connecticut are now the only states to allow same-sex marriage.

Even as the last votes were being counted, the American Civil Liberties Union, L.A. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo, the San Francisco city attorney, Lambda Legal, the ACLU of Southern California and other opponents of the ban filed a challenge with the state Supreme Court.

They contend the state's ballot can't be used to undermine one group's access to rights enjoyed by other citizens.

Proposition 8 became the focus of the most expensive social-issues campaign in U.S. history, with the rival sides raising a combined $74 million. Religious groups, including the Mormon church and the Roman Catholic Church, played pivotal roles in pushing for the ban.

There are others with more up to date and on the ground info.
