I was wondering because there is a huge Morman temple there.

5. Join the Impact reports three tomorrow.
In Baltimore, Kensington, and Salisbury. The one in Kensington is at that temple, I believe.

There's also one in DC. (I'm going to that one--it's easiest with Metro.)

6. Good grief.
Why do Mormons build their temples so freaking HUGE? Reminds me of the tower of Babel. And ugly to boot!

7. Its because before the 80's LDS temples were few and far between
in the 80's they started building smaller temples in more areas - but before that they had huge temples that covered more ground. For example the Seattle temple was dedicated in 1980 and was one of the last temples that are very very large. It serves members of the Church from Alaska, Wester Canada, Washington, most of Oregon and parts of Idaho.

The temples are not used for Sunday services, called Sacrament Meeting but rather weddings and "ordinance work" (baptism for the dead, the endowment - which is a 2 hour film people watch and act out parts of - very similar to masonic temples ceremonies). In LDS Theology one must be married in the Temple to obtain the highest level of heaven (there are three level with the top level being subdivided into three additional level with the top level being reserved for faithful members who are married in the temple).

The temple also has symbolism in its structure - the angel is facing the direction that Jesus is supposed to come in the second coming - its more than symbolic too because the Seattle Temple is facing the wrong direction and they actually have it on a swivel so its direction can be changed when Jesus comes back. The three towers represent God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Ghost as well as the Presidency of the Church (there are three there that work together too - just like God LOL!)....

That probably answered more than you wanted to know LOL - I sent my letter of resignation to the church this week - Ill post my story soon hopefully.

8. I'm sorry that you and your faith had to part ways.
That is happening to Catholics, Mormons, fundies, Southern Baptists and many others. If it has been your way of life, it will be a wrenching loss. Your family may shun you, too.

I have been to a website that I believe is called exmormon.org. I hope that is right. I am neither a Mormon nor an ex-Mormon. I went there out of curiosity when I learned that the grandson of a former prophet had left the church.

I am a Christian, so I am saddened that so many branches of my faith have turned to hate and bigotry. (I don't think the LDS church is a cult. Maybe I am wrong). It saddens me too, that so many Mormons at that website have lost all belief. Many of them are too disillusioned to look for another path to faith.
