Any other GLBT DUers here who own guns? |
|
I'm curious to know just how much of an anomaly I am. I know TWO Gay Republiconmen, and even they think I'm a freak for owning guns. So am I the only one here at DU, too? (Yes, I know there are some pro-gun hetero folks here at DU.)

Partner and I have 3, a handgun, a 22 long, and a 10 guage shotgun. We had them in our rural home in Sonoma Valley, where the sheriff might mosey on by if you call him in 10-15 minutes; but we suspect we need them more in our new home in suburban Socal.

3. At the moment no, but I have and will |
|
I have in the past and will again if I move out of the city, but currently I don't own a gun of my own. I still have fondest memories of a friend's beautiful Mini 14 that was so well made, it was even a pleasure to take apart and clean :-) Also I really enjoy trap and skeet so a shotgun may be in my future as well.

yes, we own a few. It's not uncommon in my area, in fact, I'd say MOST folks out my neck of the woods are armed in some degree or another.
In fact, every LGBT person I know out my way is armed. Lot of city folks think it's weird, but then again, I can't remember the last time we had any bullshit bashings.

13. You're not a phreak, just unique! ;) |

But there are many GLBT gun owners. In fact, many have started groups called "PINK PISTOLS" groups. I'd say the Columbus' chapter is about 2/3 "Democrat"/liberal, and about 1/3 socially liberal but in most other ways quite ... well... that "C" word ;)
I know there are at LEAST 3 other Pink Pistols members here.... but one is a straight guy.
So it's okay ;) (You are not alone! ;)

But it's loaded and ready to shoot.
I've been meaning to go out to my straight redneck brother's property way out in the country and shoot it. But I haven't gotten around to it yet.
I do know how to use it.
Point and pull the trigger.
I pray to the Buddhas of the ten directions that I never have to do so.

Why yes, I happen to own and shoot a few guns. Right now we (my partner and I) have a total of 12 --- Glocks, revolvers, rifles and a very nice Winchester 1300 Defender 12 gauge shotgun -- and a lovely thing it is -- pump action with that "KA-Ching!" that tends to stop people right in their tracks.
We hope to get a Moisin-Nagant and an AK tomorrow at a local gun show.
Not long ago we had a window shot out. We still believe it was a youthful prank -- but no one elses window was hit. The climate for gay women is little better than that for gay men. If attacked, we hope to surprise some folks.
Yes, we practise on a regular basis. Otherwise, I think your better off without a gun of any kind. Learn to use it, learn how to handle it safely. As some folks say: "Gun Control is hitting what you aim at". Tina S.

I a redneck left wing yellow dog Democrat dyke with three Glocks and various and sundry other pistols, rifles and a shotgun.
I'm an active sport shooter who voted for Kerry. I damn sure am not about to give up my guns when these crazy Biblical Law Republi-Nazis are making sound that seem awfully like I'm some sort of untermensch who can be a candidate for the camp "Arbeit Macht Frei" my ass. AK47 keeps me free.
I'll be hitting a gun show here tomorrow. Probably see a few other dykes there too, like I always do.

I own two pistols, a shotgun, and a Yugoslav SKS carbine. I shoot, will likely hunt this season, and am an absolutist about the Second Amendment. I also happen to be a bisexual male and believe that we should have effective weapons to protect ourselves. Imagine if Matt Shepard had a .38 snubbie on him. He might still be with us.

I have a 357 magnum. Gorgeous piece of machinery. (I used to have an Uzi (funny story there) because I figured my life should not depend on my skill at using a gun - a marksman I am not. Point it roughly in the right direction, pull the trigger, and hey! You win, you survive. Good enough for me, even if I know I could never actually do that.)
I did once shoot the 357 in anger. I saw a man on my street kicking his dog. I don't mean he just swiped at it - it was lying on the ground whimpering and crying as he kicked it as hard as he could in the stomach and ribs. I called the cops and then went out with my gun and fired it into the air. (Yes, stupid I know - what goes up must come down.) But it stopped him when I alone (he was twice my size) could not have. And he was intimidated enough he didn't move until the cops came. The dog was taken to a shelter, he was hauled off to jail, and I spent over an hour being lectured by a cop on the appropiate and acceptable use of firearms. Actually, I'm quite proud of that. Nobody got hurt (except the bitch before I intervened to save her.) But the bad guy got his comeuppance, the victim was healed and given a new life where she would not be abused, and the good guy (me, although "good guy" is really overstressing it. It was made very clear that what I had done had worked out all right, but it might well not have.) So the good guy learned a valuable lesson about being a responsible gun owner.
I don't think I could ever shoot anyone, ever. And I'm a firm believer in gun control. And I abhor hunting. So what am I doing with a gun? I don't know. I just guess inconsistency is the hobgoblin of small minds, as Emerson said. Or maybe that the unarmed man in an armed society must be a very nervous man, as Heinlein once said.
But I do know that owning a gun makes me a freak, a weirdo, an anomaly not only among my lesbian and gay and transgender compatriats but also my liberal friends. And a few conservative friends, as well. So be it. I've been a freak before.
But I do admire good workmanship. And I do realize that guns can bring a certain equalization to a truly unequal situation. I also realize that they can be abominations. But technology is. It exists. It can not cease to exist no matter how much we wish it to. But what do we use it for? How do we control it?
If my daughter were still living in my home I would have no guns. Period.
I could write a book about this. So many issues that need to be addressed. But I won't do that here...
Anyway, you ain't the only one.....
Khash.

And we gunowning LGBT have a web site as well. It's non-political outside of the two main issues. And no bashing or attacking LGBT is allowed. and at last count we have about 70 members http://usp45usp.proboards42.com/index.cgi

I have very bad vision and for that reason wouldn't trust myself to hit a target without my glasses. My assumption being that the most likely senario for my use of said gun being that I am broken into at night.
