Human Rights Campaign Releases List of Businesses and Organizations That Supported Proposition 8
WASHINGTON – The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender civil rights organization, today released a list of the businesses and organizations that supported California’s Proposition 8, the discriminatory amendment passed on Election Day that eliminates the right for same-sex couples to marry in the state. In addition to releasing today’s list, the Human Rights Campaign also calls on the LGBT community and our allies to speak out against those who chose to support a referendum to strip rights away from loving and committed families. To view the complete list of businesses and organizations who supported Proposition 8, visit: www.hrc.org/prop8supporters.

“As we look beyond this weekend’s protests it’s important that our community and allies are empowered to speak out against those businesses and organizations that supported enshrining discrimination into the California Constitution,” said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. “On Saturday we will be taking to the streets by the thousands all across America. Let us commit that we’ll turn our anger into action by holding accountable these businesses and organizations that fought against our equality.”

The HRC Workplace Project reviewed donations to the major ballot committees, including ProtectMarriage.com and National Organization for Marriage, that supported the passage of Proposition 8. The data, available from the California Secretary of State’s Office, was searched for donations derived directly from businesses and organizations, rather than from individuals or national advocacy groups. This list does not include CEO’s or senior executives of companies who may have contributed. Due to some complexities in how the donations were tracked, there may be more companies that are not on the list. Also, the amounts should be considered approximate.

Several Fortune 500 companies and organizations contributed to the No on 8 Campaign. However, no Fortune 500 company was found to have contributed to the Yes on 8 Campaign.

2. What's the Vineyard Group? Anybody heard of it?
VINEYARD GROUP, LLC

"Cultivating Value...Seedling to Harvest"

The Vineyard Group, LLC is a multi-faceted consulting firm that offers specialized services in five major areas including: Management Advisory Services, Ownership Transition Services including Business Valuations, Litigation Support Services, Fraud Deterrence and Detection, and Emerging Business Services.

I wanted to see what contributions came from AZ businesses, and I found the Vineyard Group to be the largerst contributor.

THE VINEYARD GROUP
MESA AZ
$100,000.00

THE VINEYARD GROUP
QUEEN CREEK AZ
$25,000.00

THE VINEYARD GROUP, LLC
MESA AZ
$35,000.00

The company profile for the Mesa location shows
Est. Annual Sales: $280,000... yet they contributed $135,000? Fishy.

The Vineyard Group, LLC, Mesa/Queen Creek, AZ
1223 S. Clearview Ave., Mesa, AZ 85209 • Tel: 480.222.5800
$160,000
The Vineyard Group gave: $25,000 on 6/23/08, $35,000 on 7/15/08 and $100,000 on 10/29/08.

The Vineyard Group is part of Cardon Hiatt Bowden, a real estate and investment company based in Mesa, AZ. Principals include Elijah and Craig Cardon, Broc Hiatt and Brent Bowden, many of whom were big financial backers of Mitt Romney for President. Broc Hiatt is a Director of the New York based Institute for American Values, where NOM founder Maggie Gallagher is an Affiliate Scholar.

7. The people have spoken...
The very WEALTHY people have spoken.

Power does not concede without a fight---sound familiar?

Hartford Holdings,LLC = $300,000

WTF? What was this really about? Some people have money to burn or a cause that is so important- still, this goes beyond the norm.

I wonder if the public really knows how much money wealthy people donated in this lopsided war against one minority?

This really seems to be a David vs. Goliath story and how the uber elite claw to stay in power.

10. I think it was the owner
that donated, not the business itself. CineMark isn't listed either, but its CEO donated $9,999.

5. Lots of dentists!
And one thing about dentists, they are all about the money. Let them all know. Let all of the people with teeth tell them they will take the teeth elsewhere.

9. El Pollo Loco
wasn't listed either. I forwarded the articles and lists showing El Pollo Loco to my pastor. It isn't much but our church will not be using them for dinners any more. Usually we have either our member who happens to be a chef create dinners or we have potlucks but sometimes El Pollo Loco was used. Now they won't be.
