SAN DIEGO – A crowd estimated at 20,000 by police and 25,000 by organizers marched downtown Saturday to protest the passage of Proposition 8, with one arrest of a counter-protester reported during the otherwise peaceful event.

Just who is in that crowd? I'll give you a hint ... I can't even feel my feet anymore.

3. I saw that YAHOO!
The cop was talking to 'im as I walked by.

I just thought to myself, "Old Dude seems just a bit confused!"

They kept urging us to just go by the YAHOOs and smile (no confrontations).

5. They ARE confused Old Dudes.
Here I sit in my little enclave (Tiburon, Marin County), and you are in the street.

Ma'am, my hat is off to you.

4. It was SO LARGE ...
that this tired ol' mom could go to one of the benches are the sidewalk periodically and take a little break. Waves and waves of people came on down the street for HOURS.

We all took over this tiny bar at the end of the line. Ma here just had a burger and a diet coke (I had to find my way back to the San Diego Zoo, at which fine establishment I had parked my Prius); but I argued with the Fundie sitting next to me and won (he left - he was surrounded)!

7. that's just great (and glad the fundie was outgunned).
i guess san diego sure has changed since i grew up there! even 10 years ago, i can't imagine that kind of crowd coming out in support of gay marriage. i hope a couple members of my family were on hand, but somehow i doubt that. i don't want to even bring the subject of prop 8 up with some of them, for fear i'll find out that they voted in favor.

i don't think we had anything near that number here in la.- maybe 10k, tops.

8. 10K is doing very well.
The county as a whole, and my county of Riverside County - well, both are increasing the Democratic rolls by leaps and bounds (I was registering at a 10:1 ratio at the mall for several weeks before the election).

I'm hoping more and more progressives are moving to Cal; maybe we can get the conservatives to MOVE OUT.

It was a great day - it feels so good to get out and demand we be treated equally under the law...
