This is an interestiing (and staggering) statistic:

Out of 103 Dentists contributing to Prop 8, 102 supported it by donating over
$142,000!!.

According to information taken from a compiled database of Prop 8 campaign
contributions received as of November 3, 2008, out of 103 donors to the Prop 8
campaign who list DDS after their name, 102 of them donated in support of Prop
8, the proposition to ban gay marriage in California. The total amount donated
was $142,921, with the average donation of $1.401.19. The three top donations
were each $10,000.

One dentist in San Diego donated $200 to the "No on 8" campaign:

I'm sure there were dentists who were contributors to No on 8 that didnt put "DDS" next to their contribution. Just thought it was a pretty staggering statistic.

2. It looks like the Mormon Church sent a mailing to their members asking them to contribute.

Dentists make a lot of money - it's very lucrative nowadays.

Of the dozen or so people who contributed to Prop 8 here in NC, it looks like most of them are Mormons.

and they have a penchant for certain distinctive first names, which I also see.

I think those are mostly Mormon dentists, with the others probably christian fundies of various stripes.

8. Republican assholes tend to like their titles... I think this is more about that than about actual

statistics. I see more of that from Republicans bragging about their status than from Democrats. DDS, MD, PhD, MBA, whatever. I think it goes more to saying that "Of the 103 Arrogant assholes who wrap their entire identity in the DDS degree they have, 102 of them voted for Prop 8."

I did see my old dentist's name who contributed to Yes on 8 when I searched by city. And he is Mormon so it was no surprise.
