Uh, not to pat myself on the back or anything, but I think I wrote well on Gay Marriage,
and the idiocy of the concept that the the heterosexual majority in this country should be able to dictate limits of the rights of the non-heterosexual minority in my post here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=7898470&mesg_id=7898470

Just thought you'd like to read it, because I do believe that what I said goes straight to the core of the issue (and it might not surprise you to see that I made what I thought was an apt comparison to racism, as well).

Anyone, feel free to quote from that post if you agree that the concept and the comparison to this country's history of racism has any value.

Once again, I'm heterosexual. But that fact does NOT give me any authority to abridge any of YOUR rights because you're not. And I think I'm going to change my sig line to say: "Come to Connecticut. We'll treat you like you're human beings."

2. Thank you. I'll be honest with you (even if nobody else will), watching two gay guys
kissing one another on the courthouse steps on the evening news doesn't exactly turn me on. In fact, I'd kind of rather not watch that.

But I like seeing that anyway, because you know what? It's not for me to dictate to anyone else how they should live their lives, prefer their same gender romanticaly rather than the opposite one, or to say they shouldn't be allowed to do anythig else that's not what I prefer to do.

Unless they're a fucking racist. Or otherwise intolerant of people who are not "like them." That kind of attitude, I will not put up with. Ever.

It's not for ANY of us to tell anyone else how to live their lives, nor to tell anyone else how they "have to be."

7. I agree,
even though I can barely stand people around me holding hands.

Q3JR4.
Grumbles incoherently about couples that don't include him and their flaunting of various aspects of their relationships that also don't include him. ;) :P

12. I'd rather not watch straight people make out in the town
square. (Unless they look good) HA

So I can empathize I guess.

3. Great post!

It may also be useful to remember that the US Constitution once specified that African-Americans were given only a fraction of the personhood of other Americans (Article 1, Section 2). While racism allowed this to be in the Constitution, what fueled it was the desire to own slaves. If the Religious Right has its way, many of the rest of us may end up involuntarily serving the radical right in the long run.

4. Indeed. To paraphrase a historic statement, I may not be one of you, but I will defend
your right to be who you are, to any end.

6. But you can reply to it, and keep it kicked. Mrs R says it's the best writing I've ever done,

and I think she may be right.

Call me a "dirty liberal" if you want to (as some might, but I'm guessing you won't), but I've always wanted to be one of the people who speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, or if those people DO speak, they're not listened to.

It's time for all of just to be Americans. It is.

10. Thanks for that Redstone. The tyranny of the majority
is not consistent with a free democracy, it's just tyranny.

11. Thanks for writing that Redstone. It is a nice piece.
And I apologize for making fun of you in the Lounge a while back in your body wash thread.

I was just having fun, but I'm sorry it hurt your feelings. :)

13. De nada. If you can't make fun of ME, who CAN you make fun of? I write some fairly
off-the-wall stuff sometimes, which does invite being made fun of. And I do generally enjoy receiving some good heckling.
