Have they no decency? Pro-prop 8 group launch abovethehate.com

Both sides in same-sex marriage debate accuse the other of hate. Day Without A Gay might be a next move

By Mike Swift

Mercury News

With another Proposition 8 protest expected to bring thousands to the Capitol in Sacramento today, both sides continue to accuse each other of a four-letter word in the same-sex marriage debate, and it isn't "love."

A pro-Prop 8 group, the National Organization for Marriage, has a new website, AboveTheHate.com, that allows people to sign an electronic letter to "say 'Enough!' to the campaign of hate and intimidation" against supporters of the marriage ban.

In the 18 days since California voters banned same-sex marriage by a 52-48 percent margin, the heat on both sides of the issue, and the name-calling, has yet to dissipate.

One Silicon Valley government employee, a contributor to the Yes on 8 campaign, was listed on www.antigayblacklist.com. She said someone contacted her employer and tried to have her fired because of her support for the same-sex marriage ban.

"One of our children is gay," said the woman, who asked her name not be used for fear of further retribution.
"This is a very painful issue for us, but we still have to follow our conscience. What I find shocking is we are not allowed to exercise our rights, but other people are."

Even TV shrink Dr. Phil McGraw got into the act Friday. In a show on Prop. 8 that featured San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and Maggie Gallagher of the Organization for Marriage, the show asked viewers to send in an e-mail if they had been "attacked for supporting Proposition 8."

Call it a backlash to the backlash over Prop. 8.

8. true.. but when we're seething with disgust at some of the most obnoxious people known to humanity
(those who would actually take the TIME to go to a website to sign a complaint about their hatred for gays not being accepted), it's hard to not use a whole bunch of K's when calling them stupid hateful motherfuckkkkkkkkkkkkers.

but yeah, you nailed it - KKK.

And she still supported the Yes on 8 campaign?

My god, what a disgusting, vile waste of organs. I would spit on her, but I wouldn't want to waste the spit.

Edit: Oh, and would someone please ask this atrocious creature what "rights" of hers are being denied? Oh wait, we can't..she's to much of a gutless coward to admit to her grotesque bigotry. Whining, pathetic coward.

"divorce" from her mother. Why should anyone be forced to put up with such deliberate mental abuse from a parent?

29. JEEEEEEEZUS!
I'm not sure how close my mum ever came to being totally accepting of my spouse (pretty close, probably because she called my spouse her "son-in-law", referred to him as "my son's husband", told him to called her "mum" and attended our wedding), but I doubt she would have voted in hate like that mother did. I think that woman should have nothing more to do with her.

Denying the right of their own children to marry, and then getting attacked for it! AWWWW....

:nopity:

What type of mother would pick an ideology over her children??? WTF?? What about the RIGHTS of her child?? What a fucking bad excuse for a mom. Seriously, fuck her.

12. My Message Left at the Article.....
My message is for the anonymous woman who was quoted in this article:

You are a horrible mother. You have chosen ideology over your own child. You believe your child should not have the ability to exercise the right to marry - at the same time, believing that your voice is being trampled upon because you had the audacity to take away a LEGAL RIGHT for gays and lesbians to get married.

If I was your child, I would disown you. What EXACTLY are you choosing over the happiness of your own gay child? Your "conscience?" Your child doesn't exist in that space? How does people of the same-sex getting married violate your conscience? If you don't believe in gay marriage, then don't be gay and get married! It's that simple!

Do you know what I find most shocking though? The simple fact that you believe you have rights, while gays and lesbians don't. You feel you have the RIGHT to TELL OTHERS WHAT TO DO WITH THEIR LIVES, AND THEN HAVE THE GALL TO WHINE WHEN OTHERS CALL YOU UPON IT.

You must look in the mirror daily, and see HYPOCRITE scrawled across your forehead.

You are a sad excuse for a human being, and I feel deeply sorry for your kid.

6. Idiot! Her rights end where someone else's begins
She has no right to deny marriage rights to someone else based on her religious views. My rabbi is more than happy to marry gay couples, but he is prevented to do so by reactionary laws. Why should Jews have to submit to Christian authority? This is anti-Semitism!

and THIS clergyman (irreverent Rev though I may be) will happily (and gayly) marry anybody who wants to be married.

We deserve as much dignity as any other human being inhabiting Mother Earth. Period.

I saw a sig-line a while back that I haven't seen for a while, but it went something like this: Our dignity is the last inch of what we are. But in that last inch, we are free.

Yeah. Like that.

22. They have to "follow their conscience" about MY marriage?
How arrogant is that? Since when did anyone else get the opportunity to "follow their conscience" about the bible beaters' marriages? Or the Mormons? Or Republicans?

The amazing thing is these people trying to make themselves out to be the victims for sticking their damned noses into my constitutional rights. Uh-uh. You don't get to have a "conscience" about MY marriage - it's none of your business. Unless they are willing to let their own damned marriages become MY business, I'm tired of them trying to tell me about THEIR "consciences" about MY life.

And this crap about "I have a daughter who is gay" Is this how she shows unconditional love? By trying to help punish her daughter?

So the woman is "shocked" that she is getting a backlash for "exercising her rights" to stick her nose in someone else's business? Revolting. Someone needs to ask her how she feels about ripping her own family apart. . .

is gay and she betrays her own flesh and blood by voting to take away his/her's civil rights?

What a nauseating lack of compassion. I would never forgive a family member, especially my own mother for stabbing me in the back.

And then to speak as though it was so painful "one of our children is gay..."

Go to hell lady. You make me sick to my stomach. :puke:

Edited on Sat Nov-22-08 10:03 AM by nichomachus
No one quite plays the victim like Christians -- Christians love to be victims. They revel in it. If people won't victimize them, they'll beg for it. Many of the early martyrs were martyrs because they went to the authorities and demanded to be killed. Later, when there was no one to pick on them, they started picking on each other. A large part of the violence done against Christians has been done by other Christians.

What a bunch of assholes.

How about a 'year without a gay'?

Better yet, a 'world without a gay'?

Best plan, send them to Iran.

Soon we will be able to identify this human aberration in early pregnancy and terminate accordingly, thus preventing its horrid taint on society.

I am putting up the post above to emphasize it in all its genocidal and hateful nastiness. It is people like you who incite homophobes to beat and kill LGBTQ people. I don’t know how you sleep at night—you must not have a conscience or if you do, it is an extremely selective one.

Your comment on soon being “able to identify this human aberration in early pregnancy and terminate accordingly, thus preventing its horrid taint on society” smacks of Nazi eugenics. Are you pro-life”? It doesn’t sound as if you are. Or are you “pro-life” with the exception of those you feel should be exterminated? I suppose that you agree with the Nazi programme of eugenics aimed at Jews, Gypsies, the disabled, or anyone else the Nazis considered to be “unworthy of life”. It is GOD who decides who lives and who dies—whenever someone kills someone he doesn’t like because he finds him or her “unworthy of life” is MURDER! Isn’t one of the Ten Commandments “thou shalt not kill”? The last time I checked it was.

Your sort of inflammatory rhetoric causes gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and queer people to be beaten and murdered. It is people like you, who want no rights at all, even the simple right to be married and happy, for gay people that made me go to Canada to get married. It was WONDERFUL to be treated just like anyone else and not some freak who should be eradicated, or if that is not possible, to be oppressed as much as people like you can manage.

As for the mother who voted to enshrine hate in law even though her daughter is gay, I am so thankful that I had a loving mother who worked past her homophobia to the point where she accepted my HUSBAND, called him her “SON-IN-LAW”, asked him to call her “MUM”, and attended our wedding. Just in case any of you think my late mother was some sort of atheist freethinker, think again. She was a devout Missouri Synod Lutheran. She might not have been completely comfortable with my being gay, but she loved her son and wanted to be supportive. Now THAT is a mother! I didn’t hassle her into attending (if you knew her, you would know that she couldn’t be hassled into doing ANYTHING she did not want to do).

The poster who would like to see gay people exterminated need to wake up and realise that God will hold those who hate accountable when they are judged. Hatred and murder are hatred and murder regardless of the circumstances.
