Bears begin boycott of Cinemark
http://www.ebar.com/news/article.php?sec=news&article=3499

The co-founders of a gay men's social group will begin a boycott today (Thursday, November 20) of a national movie chain because they learned its CEO donated nearly $10,000 in support of Proposition 8.

The group, Movie Bears, is made up of mostly hirsute men who gather together to watch movies at local theaters. Movie Bears started in San Francisco four years ago and has since grown to include chapters in other cities.

The boycott against theaters owned by Cinemark Holdings Inc., was announced in an e-mail to members after Movie Bears co-founders Dave Hayes and Drew Galleni learned that its CEO, Alan Stock, a Mormon, donated $9,999 to the campaign supporting Prop 8.

3. Love the bears. They always seem to have the most robust *community* among
gay guys, to me.

14. ohhhhhhh...TechBear....ohhhh, duh..got it. TY
My bro-in-law in Ca. has educated us to the "bear" terminology.
I think he gave Mr. D. more details than I got.
This may be a good thing; delicate southern lady ears and all that.
Rodeo and line dancing seem to be the big interest for him now, to boot.

My brother, oth, in Seattle, moves in a different circle of rainbow-ness.

9. Those are my peoples!
:) After I saw the link on here in another thread last week about Cinemark, our Houston weekly bear dinner and a movie club has done the same marking off the Cinemarks in Houston as off limits when I told our 2 organizers about the donation. It's a shame too, because the IMAX here for Cinemark was one of the theaters we'd hit the most.

16. Hell yeah.
I emailed and hard copied them a letter letting them know that I've been going to their theater for years, had my first date at one, took my kid to his first movie at one, and that I won't be back and why.

I'm straight, but they're not going to fuck over my friends with money earned from me.
