4. That sounded just like my mom.
When I told her I was gay she just looked at me and said she already knew and it was about time that I figured it out.

5. My mom said that same thing.
She said she had known since I was about 14...to this day I have no clue how, but I wish she had told me!

6. can I just be a voice of dissent here
why are we patting him on the back for doing something that he should have done anyway

it's like accepting a gay child shouldn't be the norm

it should be

I guess I'm just tired of accepting scraps

we're so thankful for people doing what they should do

and before anyone says anything, my parents didn't accept my sexuality when I first came out; they understand that it's a matter of fact now

and before any of the amateur shrinks start in on me, I'm fine with my parents doing what they did; I didn't expect anything different

7. Positive Reinforcement?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positive_reinforcement -- Really some people say it works. It isn't all that different of a concept from someone posting a positive comment about Obama or another candidate when they do something that person approves of.

8. it's not so much about the acceptance to me, but his awareness of
his child's feelings that did me in. knowing she was afraid to add another thing to a terribly stressful week, but loving her and encouraging her was wonderful IMO

of course, I'm not gay, but the parent/child relationship is so important, no matter one's sexuality.

11. how would I know?
but the post seemed to imply she was 'worried' about giving this news after a very stressful week for the family.

13. Because people should be thanked and rewarded for doing the right thing.
Especially when so many others in this world don't.
