NY Mayor Tells City Pension Plans To Recognize Gay Marriage
http://www.365gay.com/newscon04/11/111804nyPensions.htm

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg Wednesday called for the city's pension funds to treat municipal workers in same-sex marriages in the same way as those in traditional marriages.

The mayor directed his appointees on the city's five pension fund boards to support the call. Bloomberg does not have the majority of appointments on the boards but LGBT activists in New York say they are hopeful the change will be approved.

"We applaud the mayor for treating LGBT families the same as all other families for the purposes of the pension fund," Empire State pride Agenda executive director Alan van Capelle told 365Gay.com.

maybe there is hope for him after all, maybe not

1. he is still a republican
that republicans can be pro-choice or for gay marriage/rights -- isn't the whole picture.
eventually they you have to come around -- face to face -- with their core beliefs that it's better that a few at the top have the most of the pie.
a lot of good rights and freedoms are when you are a serf.

2. Yep. But a good example of
the difference between northeastern republicans versus southern/southwestern repukes. And no, that doesn't explain Santorum.

7. Bloomberg defended bush* lies about air pollution at Ground Zero
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 06:07 PM by sangh0
When the fact that the EPA buried info about the toxins created/released by the destruction was made public, Bloomberg defended bush* instead of fighting to protect the lives and health of NYers.

The only difference between Bloomberg and the rest of those neanderthals, is that Bloomberg is sometime forced to tack to the left because he's mayor of such a liberal city.

4. Bloomberg is a RINO
Bloomberg was a Dem, the only reason he's is a Pug now is because he switched his party affiliation before the election so he could avoid the Dem primaries. Bloomberg has no loyalty except to Bloomberg and will shill or say anything to get a vote.

This is just too little, too late IMO and if the local Dems here can have their shit together for once there's no reason this jackass won't be a one-term wonder.

5. "Bloomberg is a RINO"
He may be slimy and a capitalist pig and all that, but I believe he is sincere when it comes to gay issues.

His corporate policy at his financial services company was always very enlightened.

6. SINCERE? He tried to veto Gay rights...
When the NY City Council voted to only do business with companies that offer benefits to Gays and Lesbians, he tried to VETO it.

The same law has been in effect in SF for years, and Bloomberg ran on a platform SUPPORTING it.

After it passed, he tried to veto it, but lost when it went to court...

So, yeah he's slime, and NOT very enlightened it seems...

:puke:

11. Who?
Sorry, much like Zell Miller that guy doesn't exist in my version of reality. ;)

But funny you should bring him up because there's been rumors for years about him. :P

9. Of course he supports it now!
Only because he wants to get elected again. But he also realizes that the FMA will pass when it is re-introduced, and then guess what? He can turn around and say; "I'm sorry you guys have losts this, but it is a Federal move not a State move. I did what I could." Makes him look good doesn't it?

I have seen many people on DU say the queer vote isn't worth a pinch of salt. Well if that is the case then why do the repukes lie and deceive so much in order to get the queer vote? Could it be because they realize there are a lot more of us than meets the eye? Especially when you consider all the queers still in the closet.

10. How nice of him.
I'll think fondly of him after we boot his ass in '05!

I can see it now: "Tell Mayor Mike to take a hike!"
