12 cases of brain disease after vaccines
http://www.physorg.com/news80925054.html

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said 12 cases of a neurological disorder have been reported following the application of a meningococcal vaccine.

The FDA said the 12 cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome have been reported after administering of the vaccines, which are manufactured by French company Sanofi Pasteur, since October 2005, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

However, the FDA said sufficient evidence was not available to tie the vaccine to the disease and patients should continue to use it if instructed by their doctors.

The vaccines are used to prevent meningococcal disease, which causes bacterial meningitis -- an infection that attacks the lining of the brain and spinal cord. The disease affects about 1-in-100,000 young people every year

6. I take issue with the notion of a "neo con brain"
That's like saying "a silent noise" or "infinitessimally large."

But welcome to DU in any case, Zybelline!

:hi:

2. This is the kind of press release that I despise. Who the heck

received these vaccinations? The Peace Corp? Infants? Our soldiers? Saharan refugees going to Iowa? What? Test conditions? Previous record? A certain batch? Surely the basics must consist of more.

3. It says from the WSJ--was the story better there?
I don't know, but generally this vaccine is given to kids going away to college. There has been an outbreak or two of meningitis in the last fifteen years or so in college dorms, so it is a "recommended" vaccine for college, though I don't think required.

My daughter passed on getting this vaccine.

I don't think the authorities want to give out any more info at this point, actually.

4. I hate it for a different reason
Guillian-Barre is survivable. Bacterial meningitis is less so. People don't know how sick they are until it's too late, and by then they'll lose hands and feet, or even arms and legs, by the time they realize they need help and they're diagnosed and treated. That's if they survive, because bacterial meningitis has a high death rate.

Some schools, usually the ones that have already had epidemics of it in their dorms, require the vaccination. Others merely suggest it.

5. Article doesn't say, but...
I wonder if this is coming out of the VAERS database, which simply cannot be used to make any kind of conclusions because the reports are not verified.

Still, what a quandary: the FDA is reporting it, but aren't they supposed to be covering up all the "voluminous" data that shows vaccines kill people? Which conspiracy theory to buy into today?
