Discovery 'Can Destroy HIV' Researchers Claim
http://www.365gay.com/newscon04/12/121304aids.htm

Researchers at Rutgers University say they have developed a trio of drugs they believe can destroy HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

The drugs, called DAPYs, mimic the virus by changing shape, which enables them to interfere with the way HIV attacks the immune system.

Tests conducted in conjunction with Johnson and Johnson have shown the drug to be easily absorbed with minimal side effects. It also can be taken in one pill, in contrast to the drug cocktails currently taken by many AIDS patients.

2. One way to beat Big pharma
Is public domain

Put the entire discovery,in the public domain, including how to make and use the pills on line in paper etc.

You might not make much money giving away 'secrets' everyone should have access to is you really do value people over profits...,BUT the upside is even if Big Pharma kills people,or blows up the lab, the incredible work and research done will not be taken away from the people who need it most,it will not be shut down and people won't have to suffer and die,for longer as scientists try to figure out the same thing again. And it would really fuck up the Fundy fascists self serving agenda if they didn't have the"gay plague" to point to..

3. Well, most researchers have a back up anyway.
Well away from the main research area.

I don't necessarily buy into the notion that pharmaceutical companies would hold back a cure for a disease if it exists, anyway, although I can't say the same about all individuals, but any researcher worth their salt would have a secure backup of their research and data.

6. Could be. But it'll take some time.
A lot of drugs look very promising in initial testing only to either fail to live up completely to the promise or fall apart altogether due to unforseen toxicities.

I hope this time it actually comes together as they think.
