My Dad's 78 and in ICU
He spent 10 days in the hospital, and home for 4 days before going back in. I'm in Texas, he's in NY. I'm going up on Thursday. They said it was a reaction to medication but he's been weak, his blood count is very low and my gut tells me the doctors aren't telling us everything. My sister is there and I told her to make sure to read his chart tomorrow and ask hard questions.

Please keep him in your prayers.

16. Sorry to hear this - I've been through a ton of hospital "events" with
my folks and my husband, they are so stressful and scary. It's wonderful that you can get up there to be with him - sending all best wishes.

19. Tell the physicians you want to know all. No BS allowed.
And it actually could be reaction to medication. All the best to both of you.

20. I hope your father feels better and is discharged soon.
BTW:

1. Tell your sister to write down whatever she reads in the chart, esp. the lab values and medication dosages.

2. Keep a close eye on your father's general wellbeing in the hospital as it is not as sterile an environment as they would like you to believe. If you are concerned, move him ASAP/transfer him to another hospital.

I know the relief of seeing you and your sister will be plenty of good medicine in its own right.

22. My Thought Are With You

I know in kind what you are going through....my Dad was sick for 45 years and passed away 6 years ago...I miss him very much.

My advise....even though Dad is sick....be sure you keep your rest up, even though you think you have energy the stress will take its toll on you.

26. Good news!
My dad is out of ICU and I am flying up there tomorrow. He actually ate some food on his own today and got ticked off he didn't have the tv listings so he could find Law & Order or CSI.

28. My Dad's doing much better
We've got him in a rehab facility and more importantly, he's started to fight back. Apparently he contracted a virus that attacked his bone marrow. He's got a long way to go to regain his strength, but we're hopeful.

Thanks to everyone at DU for the love and support!
