1. Seems counterproductive |
|
I don't know how much a screening costs but since there are so many conditions that seem to be linked to vitamin D deficiency and it's easy enough to treat why not do it?

2. Simple solution: The people who sell Vitamin D should provide the test for free. n/t |

5. Vitamin D is far less expensive than some of the other |

medications needed to treat the symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency. Purely anecdotal, but I know one diabetic whose insulin dose dropped by half after she started taking Vitamin D.
Yes, some people make money selling Vitamin D and I'm sure they are glad to see sales rise. It still doesn't change the fact that new research is making a lot of connections between chronic diseases and vitamin D deficiency. At this point, I'd say it'd be good practice for anyone being treated for an auto-immune disorder or depression to get a baseline Vitamin D level.

3. Just proves they're not really interested in solving health issues. |

I just had my annual (sort of, I really only go about once every 2-3 years) physical last week and my doctor wanted my serum vitamin D tested. I totally expected to be fine since I started taking 1000 mg/day last January given all the information coming out. I got my results on Monday and I'm still low so now I need to increase by 200 mg/day.
Not sure how doctors are expected to suggest preventive measures if they're restricted on simple tests to give the information they need.
Pretty stupid IMHO.

4. It's become a standard test for everyone at my family doctor's. |

It costs money, but I can understand that he needs the info before blithley telling people to go out and take pills. Some people are so low they need massive doses to come up to normal; 1000 iud isn't goijg to do it.

Lose some of their ability to synthesize Vit D from sunlight, it seems absurd not to test them.
