1. My father spent a short period of time

in a nursing home with Alzheimer's. We took him home where he died. The Alzheimer's Wing is a horrible place to be. I would not want to put my wife through the financial and emotional strain of it by me being there.

Anyone who wishes to opine about the quality of life should be locked in the Alzheimer's Wing of a Nursing home for six months and then upon release immediately give a press conference about "quality of life."

Conservatives will say anything right wing radio tells them to say.

2. there's an intellectual disconnect ...

Terri Schiavo ... could feel no pain, had good insurance ... became a political pawn when the courts agreed that she could be at peace ... legislation drawn up where any member of the family could stop "pulling the plug" ... including a 2-year-old who said "Don't kill my Grandpa!".

The child in Texas, which was directly affected by George W. Bush's signature ... the family begged the hospital to keep the child alive (similar recovery chances as T.S., but not the right "minority" ... not white) ... accountant was allowed to give the order to pull the plug because they couldn't pay their bills ... when Repugs were confronted with this example, they say "no chance of recovery" ...

and then ...

a person has painful, terminal illness, NO chance of recovery, begs to be allowed to end the suffering ... legislation goes into place to keep the person from stopping the pain that almost lethal doses of morphine & other drugs can't fully stop ...

and Repugs say they DON'T want government interference in your health care ... and call us murderers and run commercials with the idea that WE are the ones coming to their door with the guns a-blazing, saying "WE CAN SCHEDULE YOU TO DIE AT 3PM!" (Of course, if it was done with today's health care industry, it would be in about 4 weeks, before they'd be able to pencil you in ... then you'd have to wait in the office half an hour to actually have the doctor show, despite the fact that you showed up 20 minutes before the appointment time ...)
