Whatever passes as health care reform this year may be badly compormised |
|
But If the Kucinich amendment is included it may pave the way for states to set up single-payer health care. Remember Canada's single-payer system evolved from this model. The thing I like about it is that conservatives can get behind it if it is marketed as a "States' Rights" issue. http://kucinich.house.gov/NEWS/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=138052

1. I'm VERY concerned about whether Alternative & Complementary Medicines will be included. |
|
I know they MUST be careful about how they go about this, but it seems to me that Preventative medicine NEEDS, SERIOUSLY NEEDS, alternatives.

2. they should have gone for single payer from the beginning |

Obama has expressed his support and preference for a single payer system for years, and it wasn't until he was about to run for prez that he started backing away from it - no surprise considering he got more in campaign contributions from HMO's, for profit hospitals, insurance companies, and PhRma than ALL the other candidates COMBINED! - and the Democrat and Republican Parties received almost equal funding from these interests this year. the Dems did not abandon Single Payer because it "wasn't realistic/possible" right now, the truth is that it isn't possible right now precisely BECAUSE the Democrats abandoned it. follow the money and you'll see where their interests really lie. I'm engaged deeply now in the move to organize within the unions for to raise the demand for Single Payer 'cause the Dem's just aren't gonna deliver from on high.
I think pushing for reform at a state level is ok, but in the end useless if it isnt backed up by a national movement...
