The other day I saw a doctor......
for a female problem I'd recently had. After undergiong a painful biopsy, the doctor told me the problem could be due to anything from hormones to cancer.

Have you ever had any medical tests you were worried about the outcome of? Is so, what?

1. Hope your tests turn out well, Louisiana.
Waiting for results is a special corner of hell.

Sending healing vibes to LA!

9. Thanks--and on top of that I can't sleep because I've the sort of sore throat that
makes you cough when you lie down. Aargh!

3. I sympathize.
I had a jaw bone biopsy ten years ago. Turned out to be benign, but it kept me on edge for a week or so. Very scary. Here's hoping everything is OK.

4. Yes and yours sounds exactly like some tests I had almost a year ago.
Also for a female problem my doctor suspected was hormonal, but turned out to be uterine cancer after the biopsy/ultrasound results came in. I totally wasn't expecting it and it was a big shock.

To make a long story short, I had some complications but came through the surgery and treatment (radiation) OK, they were no picnic but they could have been worse.

I hope you don't have what I did, but if you do, I hope you also have what I had -- good doctors, good hospitals, health insurance (even though it's still cost me a lot out of pocket), and supportive family and friends.

Please keep us posted!

5. Good vibes your way....
Hope all works our and is good news. I have had several tests to worry about. Breast, mouth, skin and probably others I am forgetting. I think if you get to a certain age things come up. I HATE the waiting! They can do so much today when they find the problem and treat it feel good that you are taking the first step. Prayers, good vibes, fingers crossed all coming your way....

6. Sounds like I've had similar biopsies.
Edited on Sun Sep-13-09 10:13 PM by woodsprite
I had 3 biopsies done over a couple of years. Each time it was something slightly different. Enough that the last time they put me on some hormone treatment. I should have known my body wouldn't respond well as oral hormones don't seem to affect me much for other things (IVF, sustaining pregnancy, etc.). During those times, I've had to resort to injected doses. The doc prescribed 6 months of oral progesterone treatment. When I was supposed to have my 6 month re-biopsy, he was scheduled for vacation, so he scheduled me for 6 mo + 3 wks. I was due for my yearly checkup 1 month before he went away. I just didn't feel right. I was successful in talking him/his staff into doing the rebiopsy early, thank goodness. I talked with the nurse before hand who had all the biopsy equipment set up for him when he walked in. It turns out the day that I had my original appointment date turned out to be the date that I ended up having surgery instead.

I know it's stressful, but as long as you have trust in your doc, that's what counts. If you don't, you might want to get a second opinion from another doc that has a good reputation. I was lucky that mine calls right away if anything is the least bit questionable, then he sets an appointment for the following morning to discuss how to handle it (if needed). He talks to you on the phone and even calls at home to check to see if you or your signifant other have any questions or concerns. If it does turn out to be cancerous, ask for a recommendation to a gynocological oncologist. They know exactly what needs to be done, whereas regular general oncologists sometimes don't do enough initially or do too much. A regular OB/GYN isn't a specialist in gyno cancers and may not get enough tissue with clean margins to stage it properly, so it's best to go to one who knows the latest treatment options/protocols.

I'll keep you in my thoughts.

7. Yes--endometrial. The wait for results was awful, and then
the results were inconclusive because the sample was poor--so not devastating, but not a relief either. I didn't have it repeated. I sincerely hope you get good news--good luck!

8. I had a biopsy (for breast mass) last Thursday.
I'm still waiting for the results. Luckily, my biopsy wasn't painful at all- it's just feeling a little in limbo while waiting for the results after a couple weeks of mammograms, ultrasounds and then the biopsy.

I wish you the best of luck. The odds are in our favor (only 1 in 5 biopsies come back malignant).

13. Ironically, it was I (the husband) who knew what the lump on Mrs. ZBDent's breast was going to be ..
and I thank my mother for explaining it to me back when I was a teenager. Cyst.

I hope that your results are as relieving as Mrs. ZBDent's was ...
