Did you have the swine flu vaccine this year, did your family members? loved ones?

Just thought I would ask since there are many who seem to be upset at the
idea of NOT having the vaccine.

1. I did, and so did my three-year-old.
My wife is not in a group that can get access to it, thus far, but she did get the seasonal flu shot. (Oh, and both I and our three-year-old also got the seasonal vaccine.)

15. Didn't have it - don't need it...
I probably have immunity from a previous H1N1 flu season.

5. Yes.
Asthma, here.

Mrs. B re-skilled herself into the Health Care industry, so she too was eligible for the vaccine.

6. I did and then died shortly thereafter.
Fortunately, my boyfriend had a bottle of vitamin d handy and it cured up my death in no time.

Or was death pretty much your only symptom?

27. I already told you on the other thread.
I haven't, because it hasn't been available to me yet. But my family and I will get it as soon as it is, just like we all got the seasonal flu shot back in September. And we didn't get TEH AUTISM and I think we're all still alive too.

10. My 8 yr old daughter got the H1N1 nasal vaccine 3 weeks
ago, she was on a waiting list. I am not eligible until everyone who has a higher priority than me gets it. I have never gotten a flu vaccine before and neither has she. But this one I feel is far more risky for children. I was born before 1957 and so I supposedly have some immunity to something similar. I am not worried for me, just her and the other children and pregnant women.

Never had any flu vaccine, btw.

And yes, I am at least a little suspicious of any injection the government, or merkglaxopfizer, says I must get immediately to ward off some sudden new threat.

18. I thought I read somewhere that the test for it is very invasive
was that at DU?

Like so invasive you don't want that test.

So if few people get the test, how do we get real statistics?

Anyway, I posted a straight forward message, and still the same folks try to
harrass other fellow DUers for their answers.

Sigh, I guess empathy and brain cells are not a requirement.

23. The test for H1N1 is a blood test...
that I have been told costs about $350. It is a DNA test for the virus itself. Generally such tests take a week or two to get the results back.

36. Actually there was a nasal swab
that was done in our case. Yes there is also a blood test but at the time we were dx'd, it was not used. Too expensive...

31. From what I've read,
medical professionals are supposed swab clear back to the brain region? :scared: That said, we had a pretty basic nasal swab which returned negative results. The test is highly inaccurate, unfortunately.

14. Nope. And I never get the seasonal vaccine
either.

I am 61 years old, pretty much the healthiest person I know, take no regular medications, and believe the best way to build your immune system is to challenge it by getting diseases in the first place. Not a very popular notion these days.

I have had flu several times in my youth. I know I did not get the Hong Kong flu in 1968, which was the last actual type A flu outbreak. I may have gotten the Asian flu in 1957, can't really remember.

And even for those you you who get flu shots and wouldn't give them up, keep in mind that this flu has turned out to be unusually mild. If every flu season every death were reported as breathlessly as seems to have happened this year, almost everyone would be totally terrified of the flu all the time. I just wish they'd report every death from smoking this way. That's 400,000 people per year.

17. I had the seasonal flu shot 5 or 6 weeks ago, and the H1N1 shot 8 days ago.
I wouldn't have it any other way, since it appears I could spread H1N1 to my patients and kill them.

24. No, San Diego ran out of vaccines and I don't want it anyhow.
Our county clinics have no more vaccines, except a few reserved only for pregnant women.

Even before that it was restricted to young people, pregnant women and health workers, so I wouldn't qualify.

but I don't want it anyway; I never seem to catch flu even though I'm out all over the place as a reporter, exposed to everything. I'm big on taking immunity boosters and eating healthy, the best defense in my book.

I have allergies and don't want the vaccine.

25. No--people over 60 are supposed to have immunity due to exposure
--to similar viruses. First dibs on the vaccine should be those who have not had such exposure.

Our MD was giving it to all her patients. Grandson, wife, daughter and our daughter and grand daughter are all
recovering from H1N1 now. (Boston). They were uncomfortable, yes, but not super sick......z
