Vaccine Prevents Cervical Cancer. So What's the Down Side? |
|
A: The combination of the vaccine's cost and the lack of access to health care will mean that cervical cancer will become a disease of poor women in the United States. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/23/health/23comm.html?_r=2&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&adxnnlx=1148569569-i1sDPsdYA6cVZhsEQkqwaA"Someone please help me with my daughter!" the middle-aged woman announced in the waiting room of our clinic. "She's in the back of the car and I can't carry her." Skip to next paragraph Leigh Wells
I followed the woman to her car. Her daughter, in her late 20's, lay huddled under a blanket in the back seat. Her face was ashen and her body cadaveric, and when I picked her up, she stared at me with hollow, dull eyes as her bones rubbed against my arms. Her mother told me that she'd brought her daughter back on a plane from New York City, where she'd been a ballerina. I had never seen an adult patient so thin, so emaciated.
My patient said she had pain in her abdomen and pelvis, and when I did a pelvic exam, I did not know what I was feeling. I only knew it was very bad.
That was almost 30 years ago, and I was feeling the contours of a cauliflowerlike mass, a so-called fungating carcinoma of the cervix, a cancer every bit as bad as it sounds. It caused my young patient's death several weeks later.

1. it takes away god's vengence. And that is a sin |

How dare people put the lives, health and the stopping of STDs before what a few demented preachers and bible beaters claim as the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help them, lord? Why, if such movements were to grow, it would mean that rational thought would remove religiosity from our society! Besides, it is not up to evil satan-worshiping doctors and nurses to determine who will be immune from an STD. It is only god's choice. Ergo, this is a religious and spiritual issue, not a health concern. So, butt out of spritual things, or else!

3. the downside is that is takes some of the danger away from sex. |
|
bad for the reichwing cristofascists.
they like stds and pregnancy, it helps the reinforce their stigma against sexual activity. original sin and all that.
this also explains why they hate condoms, birth control and morning after pills, realistic sex education and why they dont give a damn about the poor babies after they are birthed.

4. The upside is that a lot of women won't die who otherwise would have |
|
We live in a world of limited resources and different economic classes. Here's a good chance to put our money where our mouths are and find ways to make this available to every woman for whom it can make a difference.
Peace.
