4. If they can't, they go to the ER |

We've never been sent away w/out an inhaler.
BTW, we have a portable nebulizer and med capsules which seem to be more effective for the money. I'm asthmatic as well as all four kids. When we get sick it's like having to pay a regular car payment (or two) with co-pays and med bills.

7. Spiriva is over $200 a month for 30 capsules. $227,000,000.00 per pound. |
|
There's 14 micrograms (that's millionths of a gram) per dose. I figured out the price.
14 micrograms x 30 = 420 micrograms/month.
Call it $210.00. That's 50c per microgram. That's $500,000 per gram. Since there are 454 grams in one pound, that's $227 million dollars per POUND.
Now in other countries it's a lot cheaper.
Ferinstance, in India 30 capsules of the same thing is 210 Rupees. The price is listed on all medications. I think that's four or five dollars.
India = Four dollars for a month's supply. United States - Two hundred ten dollars for a months supply.
That's probably why millions of folks use the net to get their pharmacy needs met without breaking the bank. The pharmaceutical lobby does everything possible to prevent Americans from getting medications with low prices and little hassle.
Asthma meds are very expensive. I think they're trying to kill off people who have breathing trouble. Just my theory.
Advair (the purple UFO) ain't cheap either.

13. it pisses me off that some of these drugs even require a scrip. |
|
why the fuck is albuterol not just an over the counter drug.
i use flovent, which is a simple steroid, and it is also $200 something. thank gawd i have good insurance. but if we are going to keep dumping crap into the atmosphere at the rate we do, the least they could do is make the drug that it causes us to need a little more affordable, and easier to get.
