1. Are you passing a stone...are they getting ready to do a 'procedure'
on you???

Try googling what your diagnosis is...there might be some help there. Or do you know what the trouble is yet?

5. autoimmune chronic issues -- the back and possibly kidney pain is part of
the whole panopoly of shit associated with lupus-like illness.

9. My deepest sympathies. Perhaps you could ask one of the staff
if there is a PAIN MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST on duty?

I know some hospitals have them, to manage cases such as yours. Make sure you pipe up about the tylenol contraindication if you get hold of one (like I have to tell you that...).

There's few things more excruciating than what you are enduring. I hope they help you.

that will include acupuncture and herbs.

10. they try not to "mask" the problem with pain killers until the diagnosis
is nailed down.

But you should be getting something to keep you from sever pain.

Dealing with non-HIV AIDS (auto-immune disease) and it's chronic issues is complicated based on our experience. I imagine -but have no personal experience with - dealing with HIV-AIDS is likewise extremely complicated with the same "masking situation" and "speeding up time to death" issues that come with some pain treatments.

2. sorry you're going through this.
without knowing more about your case, it would be impossible to suggest anything. i know i've gotten toradol injections for back pain before and they really help. i don't know if they HAVE to control your pain but i'd be amazed if they would let you leave while in pain like that. keep us posted.

3. According to the Patients Bill of Rights, they HAVE to control your pain!
Nitwits!:grr:

Just remind them of that fact, and underscore the degree of pain you're in (they usually ask you, on a scale of 1 to 10, what your pain level is

tell them ELEVEN!

7. The VA has let me go for over a year with a ruptured disk
Edited on Sat Jul-22-06 06:33 AM by acmejack
they have finally figured out what it is all I have been given is Etodolac which does very little for the pain, so I fully sympathize. It must be the new America, where suffering is good for the soul or some such BS.

I am sorry you are suffering and really hope they get their act together soon. Be sure to leave a nasty note for the administration when you leave.

8. Every hospital has a patient advocate
Demand to see them. Dial up the operator and start asking.

Call the administrators office if you don't get help

17. look... there is no need to sit through first rounds.
You have the right to be pain free. Period!!

Trust me.. I've been in the medical field a long time.

They don't enjoy being sued for negligence or malpractice.

Don't be shy. You are not weak for seeking pain relief.

And please remember this; a person can not heal while fighting pain.

11. I will say three things
1) kidney stones are one of the most painful thing that ever happens, even more painful than childbirth, IIRC.
2) acupuncture may (or may not) be very effective.
3) versaid might be effective, in it's own way (it's an amnesiac, you don't remember the pain)

16. I am so sorry
Is there a patient advocate? Controlling pain is a big part of getting better. But I understand the issue with the liver and meds.

I wish there was some handy dandy advice for getting through pain with self-hypnosis or something, but I don't know any.

I think your best option is to keep writing here to keep your mind off it as much as possible and raise hell there.

I'll be keeping good thoughts for you today.

I am sorry, but DUers really aren't qualified to give medical advice. The moderators feel that the medical staff at the hospital would be better able to advise you.

Our sincerest wishes on a full recovery.

best,
