The confrontation is evident in Fishers, where a fledgling advocacy group is threatening to sue Hamilton Southeastern Schools if the district fails to give a "balanced and nonpartisan" view of the origins of life -- in other words, to let Darwin's critics get equal time.

The group -- headed by Delaware County resident Alex P. Oren -- has a stated mission to stop "the influence of atheism and immorality" in public schools. While his faith motivates his effort, Oren insists he isn't seeking equal time for God, just the arguments against evolution.

"This is not science versus religion," he said. "This is science versus science."

this fucknut John D. Watson's "The Double Helix" he'll learn that what Darwin got wrong was based on an empirical question concerning the difference between a gemulle and a gene. A difference between a classification analyst and a microscopic examination. If a science teacher wants to teach about Darwin's legitimate critics who do things like, oh I don't know, fucking science, then sure. Otherwise, tell this nitwit to bring the lawsuit and pay his lawyers, when he looses, ask him to appeal the decision, keep paying his lawyers. This doesn't apply to all Christians, it doesn't apply to all theists, but it does apply to this kind of Christian.

Why do these people equate atheism with immorality? Why do these people think that without a petty, father-figure God looking over their shoulder life would become a free-for-all of killing and raping? This is beyond stupid. I have never killed or raped because I'm nice and normal, not because I fear the wrath of God.

In many ways, the mindset of this kind of Christian is more child-like than that of the children he's supposedly trying to protect.

I was discussing evolution vs creationism with a fellow who was a creationist, but otherwise seemed like a smart and reasonable guy. For some reason the discussion drifted to God's existance, and he said something like, "If I knew for a fact that God didn't exist, I'd go on a shotting spree, I mean, there's no punishment, so why not?"

WTF!? How do people live with the fear of a petty God looking over their shoulder?

Take a look at Lawrence Kohlberg's theory of the stages of moral development. Many of the more primitive Christians seem to be stuck in the 'pre-conventional' stages, similar to the moral sense shown by most young kids. It would be interesting to see whether they show signs of arrested cognitive development too (apart from having the ultimate imaginary friend, of course...)
