Abnormal Brains Wired for Lies
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200510/s1484365.htm

---------------snip--------------

The new study suggests that because grey matter consists of brain cells, while white matter forms the "wiring" or connections between these cells, pathological liars may have more capacity to lie and fewer moral restraints.

"They've got the equipment to lie and they don't have the disinhibition that the rest of us have in telling the big whoppers," Dr Raine said.

---------------snip--------------

I'd like to see the MRI of the contents of Dubya's cranium. I gotta hunch we'd be lookin' at a whole lotta white.

1. I spent years wondering how bushco sleeps.

Now we find out they're wired that way.

Dang I knew they weren't like us. Why was I trying to apply the same guilt principles to them.

"Past studies have found that the prefrontal cortex shows heightened activity when normal people lie.

It is believed to be involved in both learning moral behaviour and feeling remorse.

The new study suggests that because grey matter consists of brain cells, while white matter forms the "wiring" or connections between these cells, pathological liars may have more capacity to lie and fewer moral restraints.

"They've got the equipment to lie and they don't have the disinhibition that the rest of us have in telling the big whoppers," Dr Raine said."

That's him, that's him!

3. Even so...
You ask "Why was I trying to apply the same guilt principles to them." It's because their behavior affects all of us. If they want to lie about things that don't have an impact on millions of people world wide, that's fine. Let them lie about their golf scores, or whatever else.

This means that the whole Bush administration is abnormal, but then, we always knew that!

4. I think they meant "Abby Normal..."
<http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072431/quotes>

From Young Frankenstein (1974)

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Igor, would you mind telling me whose brain I did put in?

Igor: And you won't be angry?

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: I will NOT be angry.

Igor: Abby someone.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Abby someone. Abby who?

Igor: Abby Normal.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Abby Normal?

Igor: I'm almost sure that was the name.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Are you saying that I put an abnormal brain into a seven and a half foot long, fifty-four inch wide GORILLA? IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE TELLING ME?

10. You could be right...
...that's why we need the brain MRI---and not just for Dubya, but for all who make up, and shill for, BushCo.

8. Um - it kinda depends on what part of the brain the White Matter is
Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 01:40 PM by applegrove
"making up for". Dyslexics and others will have lots of WM too and they are not liars - please - not everyone is a liar who has white matter.

9. "Abnormal"?
The brain is plastic: it becomes what you make of it. And everybody has the "equipment" to lie. You don't need a so-called "objective" study to know that. What the hell is these people's miserable purpose? Who the hell is paying their grant?

11. What is exasperating is most of the MSM, Congress, and the people
do not seem concerned that the people, and yes the Congress, are being fed a steady diet of obvious enormous whoppers.

13. If anyone cares...
Here's the original USC press release.
http://www.usc.edu/uscnews/stories/11655.html

This is really preliminary research and it would be irresponsible to draw any conclusions from it other than pathological liars appear to have more connecting white matter than most people. Even so, this was a small study and I'd like to see it repeated on a larger scale.

15. From Bush to the Big Dawg...
...pathological lying rather neatly defines our pols.

However, I doubt Bush's capacity for clever lying; the evidence is he inhabits a post-alchoholic, post-coke fantasyland.

16. Quite possible...
...And he may be so self deluding that he honestly believes in his own rhetoric. If this is the case, can we even call it lying?

17. My thoughts exactly.
Alternatively, he could be a mastermind whose subtlety has led us down a dark post-modern alley: he lies so well we think he can't.

But hearing him struggle to conjugate "to be," I somehow think not. ;-)
