Study: Notorious Asteroid Didn't Kill Dinos
Study: Notorious Asteroid Didn't Kill Dinos

By Larry O'Hanlon, Discovery News

Nov. 16, 2004 — Startling new evidence from boreholes drilled into the Chicxulub crater indicate that the great impact there happened hundreds of millennia too early to have been the one that wiped out the dinosaurs.

The discovery comes at a time when some geologists are convinced that the 120-mile-wide Chicxulub crater in Mexico was the "smoking gun" of what killed 70 percent of living species at the Cretaceous-Tertiary (a.k.a. K-T) boundary, 65 million years ago....cont'd

2. Everyone knows dinosaurs never existed.
God just put the bones there to be a puzzle for us.

(Honest-to-God, that's what a fundie creationist told me once.)

6. That's why ...
... only the ones that could swim survived. (There's one in Loch Ness still.)

3. The article says that it may have taken several asteroids...
...and massive volcanic eruptions to finish the job. The asteroid that hit in Mexico was 300,000 years too EARLY to have finished off the dinosaurs. This is interesting. It looks like the nuclear winter/asteroid theory is in need of further explanation and study.

4. This reminds me of the poster from the Far Side...
picture of dinosaurs standing around smoking cigarettes.

The caption - the real reason why dinosaurs became extinct.

I love that poster!
