Great Googly-moogley... I'm in a state of absolute wonder. I just listened to sounds from a moon hundreds of millions of miles away.

It's a miracle that modern science can do this... it's like finding out they just walked on water. Incredible! Stunning!

Did I tell you that you can hear SOUNDS???!!! :O

3. Translate.
All the sounds seem to have been taped while the ship was descending or in the process of descending. Wouldn't a more reliable taping require that all ship noises be neutral?

5. I'm agog that there are any sounds at all.

Maybe next time they will send up a studio with a sound crew from NPR to make a few recordings more to your liking.

8. But how can you tell what the natural planetary sounds are, versus
the sounds of the ship and/or its mechanical units?

10. the last part is when ship has landed
naturally, electronic noise dominates, but apparently the last few secs are of what one would hear if they were there in person (no yelling or whining ie no busheviks! must be nice):9 in compressed form of course

4. Frankly, I'm a little disappointed.
When I clicked on the link, I was hoping to find some sounds from the surface of the planet. Instead, it appears to be just the sounds of the landing...which sounds like someone standing next to a mic with an electric hairdryer.

It's cool that they can send us the sounds all the way from the other side of the solar system, but I guess I was just expecting something more dramatic.

Sorry to sound like such a naysayer. :(

7. B'ch T-zantha, Titan's famous pop-star, didn't want to be recorded
Edited on Sat Jan-15-05 11:46 AM by brainshrub
because he/she was concerned that (it's) material would be illegally distributed on the net without his/her getting any royalties for the creative work.

The lawyers are working on a deal as we speak.

6. The only other thing this nifty
was back in the early Eighties, when you could (with a 900-number phone call) listen to 30 seconds of Voyager beeping as it passed out of the Solar System.

Nice that this kind of stuff is free on the Web these days.

11. i'd even listen to a recording of that!
ot apparently, back in the 30's, it was possible to phone Aimee Semple McPherson in her coffin...she put it in her will that a live telephone had to be there in case she woke up!

12. This thrilling mission is a welcome respite from the grotesque
stupidity of these times.

I think though that there will be few future missions like this, and that's depressing.

But, my depression aside, I would like to offer a deep sense of thanks to the sucessful team at the European and Italian space agencies. Remarkable! May humanity have time to ponder what they have done.
