Odd couple make friends in Kenya
Saw this story on the beeb tonight:

A baby hippo rescued after floods in Kenya last week has befriended a 100-year-old tortoise in Kenya.

The one-year-old hippo calf christened Owen was found alone and dehydrated by wildlife rangers near the Indian Ocean.

He was placed in an enclosure at a wildlife sanctuary in the coastal city of Mombasa and befriended a male tortoise of a similar colour.

According to a park official, they sleep together, eat together and "have become inseparable."

Odd couple make friends in Kenya....

1. Once again, animals prove to be higher evolved beings than humans are.

Aren't they sweet? Here's another odd couple from the past, a baby warthog and an oryx.

4. Cats are one of the few critters out there that like us
meaning primates in general. Feral cats have "adopted" apes in zoos. The affection seems to be hardwired in them. Even cats born feral can be tamed down to an extent, although they'll never be lap cats. Something about them just likes to be around primates. Maybe it's because most of us are messy eaters and we attract their natural prey.

Who knows? It's very brave of them, anyway. A ten pound adult cat and a two hundred pound adult primate have got to be the oddest couple out there.

8. How long before the Fundies catch on to this?
Wonder if the next "popular language" version of the Bible will amend
Isaiah 11:6?

"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall
lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the
fatling together; and a little child shall lead them."

"The Hippopotamus shall lie down with the tortoise; and the ibex
and the warthog and the Republican together; ..."
