Maths prize is awarded to Indian (BBC) {Ramanujan Prize}
A female mathematician from India has been presented with the Ramanujan Prize, which honours young maths researchers from developing countries.

Ramdorai Sujatha, from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai, picked up up the award at a ceremony in Trieste, Italy.

The prize was set up last year, so 44-year-old Professor Sujatha is the second recipient of the $10,000 award.

The award is named after the Indian mathematics genius Srinivasa Ramanujan.

It is to be awarded annually to a mathematician under 45 from a developing country.

1. Award
I was told about Ramanujam when I was a young kid. Unfortunately, at the time, I was terribly immature and thought the name was hilarious. Later on, I learned more about him and it is remarkable the mathematical genius he had, and it was all self-taught. Him finding used books that he could afford or were being given away. So Ramanujam's legend is about more than brilliance, but also perseverance and resourcefulness.
