Gibbons Defend Against Predators With Song

I love it. Sneak up and essentially scream: "I SEEEEEE YOOOOOO!"

And yet another indicator that humour is not a purely human trait. As anyone who has encountered Black Cockatoos will immediately tell you.

1. I'm glad they've finally found proof...
that animals communicate with varying degrees of complexity is apparent just by listening to them, IMO. :-)

Vervets, bees, prairie dogs. And much, much more. Lots of stuff there.

Also look up "design features of language", something most linguists pay attention to.

Do tell more regarding Black Cockatoos(Which subspecies? Palm?) and a sense of humor. I am all ears. Or eyes. ;-)

5. Wouldn't know. Orange bums. Central Coast. NSW.
Every year they would come into our yard/trees to feed on the sheoak nuts. Things would be pretty silent, just clicking sounds as they cracked open the nuts. A nut would smack down somewhere nearby. Look up and there would be a black cocky which would immediately go into the bob, flap and screech routine parrots are famous for. But if you just notice one in the trees, it just gives you a look back that seems to say: "Wait until I throw something at you. Dumbass."
