Colossal squid out of the freezer
The biggest colossal squid ever landed comes out of the deep freeze over the next day and a half in New Zealand.
...
The thawing and subsequent dissection will feature in a live webcast.

The procedure begins about noon on Sudnay in Wellington (midnight GMT).

"We estimate it will take about 36 hours to fully defrost," said Chris Paulin, projects and compliance manager at the Te Papa centre.

5. I wish them luck. Freezing it was a mistake.
We vets know better than to freeze an animal we want to have a look inside of later. Innards turn to mush after they have been frozen........

They should have tossed it in formalin or even alcohol in a pinch........

6. I think freezing it on the fishing boat was their only option
they don't normally carry enough alcohol to pickle a half ton monster - they wouldn't be able to steer straight ...

7. Live webcam? Should give birth to the phrase " as exciting as watching squid thaw".
For those who can't take that much excitement directly, there is a blog devoted to the collosal squid thaw: http://wordpress.com/tag/colossal-squid/

(LOL! BBC now has a link to tonmo.com -- something once familiar only to the nerdiest of the nerdy.)
