Global Correlations in Random Data
http://noosphere.princeton.edu/

The Global Consciousness Project, also called the EGG Project, is an international, multidisciplinary collaboration of scientists, engineers, artists and others. This website introduces methods, technology, and empirical results under the "Scientific Work" menu below, and gives background and interpretation under "Aesthetic View".

We have been collecting data from a global network of random event generators since August, 1998. The network has grown to about 65 host sites around the world running custom software that reads the output of physical random number generators and records a 200-bit trial sum once every second, continuously over months and years. The data are transmitted over the internet to a server in Princeton, NJ, USA, where they are archived for later analysis. Statistical results are complemented by visualizations. Individual data create a random tapestry. The dot color shows their global coherence. Global brain paintings display their complexity.

Global Brain by BrainPaint
The link below leads to an image created from the GCP/EGG data by Bill Scott, using algorithms he developed to show the complex beauty of brain activity. Dynamic images of a person's brain at work are of great value for clinical feedback training. The painting is created from one minute of EGG data, and will change to a new image after 60 seconds.

The actual algorithms are proprietary "ancient Chinese trade secrets" but it seems likely Bill uses nonlinear equations, perhaps fractal generators, with modulation of input parameters by composite Z-scores. About the GCP/EGG data he says,

We're ready to begin global consciousness feedback. The data coming from your servers is very complex and lifelike. I have a server up and running taking a minute of your data and updating an image every minute.

Being that complex systems are infinitely sensitive they ideally lend themselves to feedback of this nature. These images from your data are quite profound!
